Its approaching fall and I'm thinking about setting up the new Kurt Kinetic. (Rode rollers for the last few years.) This year I'm thinking I will set up a rear wheel just for the trainer. I'll have a trainer tire on it and a cassette geared for the trainer. It will come in handy during the fall before it gets too cold when I might have days I can ride outside and days I'll need to ride the trainer. Last year I kept changing the tire every time I went from inside to outdoors, trying to preserve my road tire. This year I'm planning ahead so all I need to do is a quick wheel change. So, here's my question: what wheel should I purchase? I'm thinking I can get away with a cheap wheel. I don't need to be concerned with weight or aerodynamics. In fact a heavier wheel might be the best for momentum. My only issue is I'm a Clydesdale, weighing in at about 250 lbs. So I need a strong wheel. Any suggestions?

I'm about your weight and I used a Reynolds Alta Comp w/o any issues til I sold the pair. I plan to get a Performance Forte Titan. The only real stress is at the skewer if you sprint on it. Any true wheel will do. I would use whatever you find a deal on.

The wheel won't matter for a trainer. The worry with a clyde (as I am) and wheels is impacts on the road. Since there isn't any impact on the trainer, you should be able to use most anything.
