Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - Charging from a dynohub: The B&M e-Werk

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Looks like charging GPS units (or whatever) off of a dynohub might be a reality soon... introducing Busch & Muller's eWork (http://www.bumm.de/index-e.html?docu/361e.htm), they say available next month... hopefully it's real.
For all those who do not want to go cycling without their mobile phones, GPS, MP3 players and other electronic devices and do not have access to a stationary charging station comes the "bike mobile" E-WERK. If the compact device is connected to the hub dynamo, the electricity generated by the cyclist's muscle power does not have to be used by only the lighting fixtures but can alternatively be processed by E-WERK
Translation seems a bit rough but it sounds interesting nonetheless. Does anything else like this already exist?
Though I just realized this might not work with my Shimano dyno since it has different connectors.. still a step in the right direction.
Hi everybody (first post, reading quite a bit(as always :) )),
yes there is something similar around.
There is a project originating from a german bike-touring forum which has grown and is supplying circuits for free.
The forum, has an english section: http://www.rad-forum.de/cfrm
The page of the "Forumslader" unfortunately, only german: http://www.forumslader.de/

I haven't build it, but heard it's working good.

Matt, the PedalPower+ is already available at SVC. Plugs into the hub and charges phones/GPS/etc. Works with Shimano, SRAM or SON hubs.
Really?
Wow, I'll have to check it out, thanks.

I just noticed this the other day and I'm tying to convince my wife it's a good reason to get it along with a Schmidt Dynohub to keep my GPS powered up while we ride.
Who's gonna be the guinea pig:p?

I've got a Dynohub wheel and light on order. Maybe the E-werk will be next.

looks like a nice piece of kit...though I'm not too thrilled about the adjustable voltage, sounds like a great way to fry your favorite electronics. Would be better if the USB connector automatically set for the correct voltage...and wow 139 euros! that quite the hefty charge!

As I just received my dynohub today and would like my EDGE 305 to work longer than 8 hours I have to look into this. Looks interesting.
Another on-the-bike charging option - Dahon ReeCharge. I don't know anything about it, just reading the press release.

The ReeCharge looks even better, because you can take it with you. It looks like they have a decent Iphone mount too.
