hi Frame builders,
i have a 1974 Raleigh Ti SBDU track frame that is looking a bit worse for wear.
The seat clamp is pretty much hanging off on the right hand side (see pic)
is this a simple repair or do you think this may need a new seat lug...?

First off, that sure looks to be steel to me, not titanium.
If I'm not mistaken (which I very well might be) Raleigh offered lifetime warranties on their higher end frames. Perhaps you could contact them.

Ti means "tube investments" - the frame is made from reynolds 531.

That's an odd acronym. In any event I do recall a poster here who had an 1980s Raleigh covered under guarantee, so it's at least worth asking about.

Trying to pinch Raleigh for a warranty repair on a frame that old is just plain wrong.
Not sure what to suggest regarding the repair since the photo doesn't show much wrong. Typically, some sort of seat post clamp ears could be added but it's hard to see what's wrong.

The answer is yes, it can be fixed. It's a straightforward and fairly common repair when you're dealing with the clamp ears on a stamped lug. I'd grind it off and replace it with a new pinch bolt assembly.

Right, Tube Invesments was the holding company that included Reynolds, Sturmey-Archer, Raleigh, and perhaps others.
But abbreviating it "TI" (as on the Reynolds decal) would probably help to distinguish it from "Ti" which, after all, is the official chemical symbol for titanium. :)
To expand, the holding company for Reynolds et al. started off as T(ubing) I(nvestments) Ackers and Pollock and went through several naming revisions to give you today's 'Apollo', a convenient mashup of the original owner's names. Yes, the overuse of a proper-nouned 'Ti' from the original company name is a little, um, weaselly, but so were a number more of the marketing actions of the companies falling under TI Ackers and Pollock's umbrella. This was the seventies, after all... ;-)
