Framebuilders - Crooked brake bridge on 531 frame

Hi all, I just bought a 1986 peugeot px10 frame w/ reynolds 531 throughout (picture forthcoming).

It looks great,however, I noticed that the rear brake bridge isn't perfectly horizontal. It's a little crooked. With the point where it intersects with the seat stay a little lower on the drive side than on the non-drive side of the bridge.

Is this a biggie?

No, it's a cosmetic issue -- nothing more. Chalk it up to French construction. :)

my ~'83 bianchi track bike has the same issue, fortunately I don't have to worry about it!

back when I was an undergrad, I used to make beer money brazing brake bridges back on (mostly French) bikes. I figure the really drunk guys got assigned to brazing on brake bridges.

The repaint will be more of a biggie.

I forgot to say that I wouldn't touch it. It was built that way, it has made it through a couple of decades that way, I'd leave it.

And once you put a brake on it, you won't be able to tell it's crooked anyway.
