I have an old Raleigh bicycle I've used for about 6 years now. When I first got it I lived in DC and registered it with the government there. They gave me a big white sticker, but missed the serial number and so engraved another number on the bottom of the frame. About 2-3 years ago I moved right over the border to Maryland and now live there. I travel the local trails frequently and do go into DC, though the bicycle is "housed" in Maryland with me.
'm guessing the registration expired sometime back (I never renewed because I moved to MD, though right over the line), and the serial number on the bike doesn't match the number the engraved on the bottom of the frame. I also wonder if they recycle registration numbers and that some other bike has my number now (since mine is so old). I see tons of bikes in DC without registration stickers and nothing apparently happens to them, so I'm not sure what the efficacy is. Should I take off the registration sticker?
