so i had a rather embarassing situation today. i was riding to work today, my usual route, and came up on a bunch of cars that were trying to get in different lanes. the road is a three lane, one way street and cars were jumbled up all over the place. anyway, i was going to just ride through them, and then i came up on a tour bus that was causing all the chaos. it was trying to back up, which i didn't realize until i got right up on it. i decided to go around its right side, but a car was right there. i over corrected and somehow lost my balence and started to fall over. i got one foot out of the clips, but i couldn't get my other one out, and with the position i was in, i just fell over. unfortunately, i was RIGHT behind the bus, which proceeded to start backing up again. i was laying on the ground and couldn't get up cause my foot was stuck in the clip. i started yelling "don't back up, don't back up" i think they finally caught a glimpse of me and stopped, where i was able to stop panicking and get my stupid foot out. i felt really REALLY stupid. whats worse is that i got up, and started looking at my bike like something was wrong with it, causing me to fall over like an idiot.

Damn, man!
That's enough embarrassment for twenty years!
I'm glad you didn't get squashed under the tour bus!
I just got clipless pedals last weekend, and I predict I'll have a similar incident sometime in the next few weeks ;c)

Wow! You could've been a fixie pancake! Glad you got out of it ok. I did the tipover thing several months ago when I attempted to do a trackstand behind a car waiting to turn left. I couldn't hold the stand and couldn't clip out and ended up falling over still clipped in to both pedals! Saw a couple schoolgirls laughing at me and drivers in their cars clueless as to what to do. Took the side streets for a few minutes to regain my composure...

yeah, i've done it a couple times, just completely lose my concentration and then my balance goes. both times i've done it, it was in the middle of rush hour, but before i didn't have a bus backing up over me. ugh.

yep - you gotta make people believe it couldn't have been anything you were doing wrong. i remember playing tennis and hitting the ball way out of the court a lot. i'd always look down and fiddle with the racket in a lame attempt to remove blame from myself :) noboby buys that though.

I have had two major one-bike wrecks. Both had to do with clips, but had more to do with my own lack of reflexes and attention. I wish I had video tapes of the accidents. They must've looked pretty funny.
