So one of my brake hoods is tearing from the bottom. I don't know how long it's been like that, but I noticed it a few days ago.
I know there is no definitive answer, but typically are brake hoods supposed to last longer than 5-6 months? I'm using some Cane Creek non-aero hoods and I'm surprised I have to replace it so soon.
Does anyone have any tricks to repair a tear in brake hoods or is it a lost cause and I should just order some new ones?
lost cause, i think. I've tried several things, but none ever lasts long. I am pretty sure that hoods should last a couple of seasons of constant riding, anyway. Do the hoods match the levers?

Are you riding the hoods?

Yea I ride the hoods a lot. The rest of the hood looks great, but the bottom is what tore. Maybe I just got a dud.
The hoods do match the levers I believe. Weinmann levers with Cane Creek Dia Compe repros.

A replacement sounds in order, and no, they shouldn't tear so soon. You can always bodge a temporary fix with cotton bar tape wrapping, might not look too hot but it'll keep the hood together.
