Just discovered a new product.
"Fiber Fix Spoke kit". It is a strong kevlar cord attaches to rim and hub. When I was able to commute to work constantly worried will I be able to fix a problem fast enough. Spokes breaking one of my concerns.
Anyone have this product.? Sounds great. Does it work?
Yeah, I've heard of them but I seeem to remember they are quite expensive. A cheaper but STRICTLY temporary way would be a steel tube about an inch long with a strong grub screw in each end. You could slip it down over one end of the spoke and then back up over the other end and crank up both the grub screws to hold the ends together. You could then tighten up the spoke again - :D - of course, you'd need some kind of clamp on one for the opposing spoke to counterbalance it...

I haven't seen these for a few years. Where did you find it? I would like to add one to my touring kip.
Whichone - kevlar or steel ? If you mean the steel one, I just thought of it...
ASTRA HEREBY CLAIMS WORLDWIDE PATENT RIGHTS FOR THIS NEW DEVICE !!!!

A nifty item for longer commutes or tours.
The standard emergency repair spoke is an extra long spoke with a dog-leg bend, instead of a head. You can insert the spoke through the hole onto the drive side without removing the cogs.
Tape one to your chainstay.
Trying to join the two broken ends is pointless, they usually break very close to the head, where the spokes interlace, and the tension in spokes is too much for any grub screw to hold.
Better still, if you use a good 36 spoke handbuilt wheel, spoke breakeage will be a very rare event, and no show stopper when it does happen.

BTW, kevlar is old fashioned as a spoke material. The trickest wheels have Zylon spokes. This is a fibre stronger and lighter than kevlar or carbon.

HEY FIBERFIX EMERGENCY SPOKE IS AVAILABLE
THE KIT INCLUDES A KEVLAR WIRE THAT CAN REPLACE ANY SIZE SPOKE,A LITTLE TOOL AND INSTRUCTIONS. THE COGS DON'T NEED TO BE REMOVED EITHER. BUT WHY FIX SOMETHING TWICE. THEY SHOULD BE AROUND 10 DOLLARS RETAIL.

Adventure Cycling has a catalogue sent to members called Cyclesource. These products it sells to members that they think might be helpful on tours.
They can be ordered on line at their web site. It might cost a dollar or two more for non-members. I ordered one today. To save a commute or being stuck out in nowhere, it is an invaluable product and quicker than changing a spoke. $9 for members.
I just wonder if the kit is good for one broken spoke only.?
