I've done a search and couldn't find exactly what I wanted, so here I am asking the tri gurus. :)

I'm training for my first triathlon (sprint in March) and have been riding for about 4 years. I've always preferred tri shorts for the lack of chamois, so I figured I wouldn't need to purchase new shorts for swimming.

Of course, my plans were thwarted. See, apparently Pearl Izumi shorts aren't chlorine pool compatible, so they've been getting a little thing as of late. Embarrassingly thin.

I'm looking for recommendations on what shorts will last in the water and on my bike, or if there are any suits out there that you consider worth having on the side from riding shorts. Thanks!

I buy either a speedo or Nike swim jammer to do my swim training in. I use my Tri shorts for cycle training and of course for racing.

I second the Nikes for swim training, they last forever....

Even in chlorine pools?

If so, I'm sold.

From listing to others with complaints about swim gear not lasting, the speedo brand seems to last longer than TYR, Nike, The Finals, and Dolfin. That was our pool, and not a large group of people but the swim team and the daily swimmers. Some of the Nike and TYR stuff didn't last a season for them, so they went back to Speedo.

Please remember this is just from people that swim at our pool and not a nationwide survey or anything. I am very sure it also depends upon how each person treats their swim wear. We also have "suit mate" spin dryers in our locker rooms, so people don't have to wash their suits as often.

It also makes a difference if they are poly or lycra. Lycra wears out quicker.

The olympians use them for up to four years in the most strenuous suit conditions anywhere.

Nuff said.

I think they are all good products.....the key is rinsing them out right after the swim w/ cold water, and then washing them after every 4 or 5 swims. My Nike's lasted about a year......doing about 3 swims a week for 8 months, and about 4 swims a week the last 4 months. If other people are going longer with other brands, then you might try those brands.

I don't practice in my tri shorts/jersey, I practice in a swimsuit :)
