Commuting - atac cleat clearance

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Since my eggbeater candies were jacked along with my last bike, I heeded tons of positive reviews and picked up a set of atac aliums. The ride is fantastic, but I find the cleat sticks out quite a bit further than with the eggbeaters, to the point where I'm actually slipping around a bit on the cleat. Does anyone know whether the atac cleats do in fact have a markedly different height? It occurs to me that the cleat profile for the two pedal systems might actually be the same, but (a) my eggbeater cleats were quite worn and/or (b) my shoe tread has worn down. Perhaps it's time to replace the shoes (Cannondale Carve), which have seen quite a bit of use, but they still have some life left (and I love them), so I wanted to see if anyone else has input...

Slipping around when you walk or when you pedal.
I have ATAC cleats on pair of fairly fresh Shimano shoes. No issues when walking.
WRT pedaling, the retention is fairly light (as in clipping out is easy), but I wouldn't call it slippery.

Yeah, sorry that wasn't clear -- slippery walking, as in the cleat is contacting the ground. Obviously bad news for the cleat and the floor, not to mention my @ss, since I practically bit it on tile 20 min ago. No problems with the ride at all.
Maybe it's the shoes?
