I was thinking about riding a mountian bike from Flordia back to California (where I live) and was wondering how much it would cost? I hope it's under $1,000 because I'm not rich, but I ALWAYS wanted to try this. Does anybody have any pointers or tips?

You'll probably get more and/or better responses in the Touring forum. Unless anybody in here is preparing for a Florida to California TT. Anyone?

I have no idea, but I'd imagine you could (should) spend $1000 on food alone. Then there's the bike repairs you'll do along the way. Hopefully minor repairs. Then there's hotel expenses. Toughing it out in a tent & bag is great fun, but you'll have a day or three where you'll want to get inside, cool off, shower, and heal.

Interesting question though.
