Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - 1988 Marinoni Pista Track Bike- worth??

I have an '88 Marinoni Pista Track bike that was custom built for me in 1988. It went to 2 Jr. World Championships(88and 89). It was custom built for me and is essentially a 56cm frame. It is outfitted with mostly Mavic components. Anyone have a clue on its worth?? I am attaching a picture to show the paint scheme. This is NOT my bike. Just the paint looks like this....

Have you asked around at Alkek or posted in the TXBRA classifieds? It's really hard to tell from what you have described.

As you know Marinoni frames are pretty sweet. You should take pictures and post a thread in the C&V appraisal section to get some good answers.

You could get a pretty penny but a lot of that may depend on the geometry of the frame since it is a frame designed to your body. It probably isn't a problem unless you are really oddly proportioned or something. Marinoni has always sold custom stuff but has also always sold off-the-peg frames with traditional fittings which are probably more desirable but anything by Marinoni will be get a lot of attention.

the bike was made for my longer torso...it was nothing drastic... just the offer was made and we had my measurements taken and he built it for me..

It is about 40 miles from me..having pix taken and sent to me..will post as soon as i get them

steel??? I do not think so..it is a marinoni special.....it may be..but the entire bike weighs like 14 lbs not the frame

It is probably steel, my old Special road bike was Columbus SLX and it was just over 20lbs with a full Dura Ace 7400 group.

I have really long arms/torso too ;)

With the right photos (against a white wall/garage door) and some new bartape (I would recommend white) you could get an easy $900 for the complete bike, maybe more if you go the eBay route. Definitely on your local CL, you can get that price for it and all those extra wheelsets are worth a bit, at the very least, a $100 a set.

You have some great photos of you riding it in a race and I assume it has a lot of sentimental value so why not just keep it? You could buy a cheap fork and throw a front brake on there and go for some great rides on the weekends I would think...

I'm very glad I resisted the temptation to get rid of my old bikes, particularly the custom built frames. The OP is probably somewhere around 40 years old, and has about another 10 years before reaching his mid-life crisis. Lately, I've been using my retirement time to restore and redeploy all my old rigs, put on all my old clothing and revisit the good old days. :)
