Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - My step-daughter just got a bike. . . . . . .

My stepdaughter, Nova, just got a bike at the collective. The funny thing is that it is exactly like my bike except with dropped bars. It's about 12 years younger than mine but I just think that's very cool that she picked one out just like mine. And it has almost nothing wrong with it. Just needs the brake cables lubed and new tires and tubes. Of course, I got her a lot of "stuff" to put on it-----lights, fenders, etc. I'm just really proud. And she wants me to help her fix it up. Isn't that cool?!:love:

This so cool on so many levels.

Of course, having the riding buddy rocks beyond all else!

It is great fun to share the enthusiasm of a "new" bike, ...new parts, accessorizing, customizing, etc. ...with someone you love. :love:

I've noticed an appreciation for the vintage bicycle amonst the younger set on campus. I suspect part of it is the retro-cool thing and part of it is earth-friendly, saving not only gas, but the resources of fixing up an old bike vs. buying a new one.

That's great. I hope you and she enjoy many miles together.

If she is new to cycling, remember to go slower than you think is necessary, stop a lot and make the rides special and fun. New riders like to break up the ride, walk around, look at the cows, or stop at the little shop on the corner.

Let her have fun and don't try for millage at first. That way she will keep coming back for more rides.
