Texas - West Houston/Energy Corridor Trail Master Plan Input Sought

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The Energy Corridor District has published their proposed Trails Master Plan (http://www.energycorridor.org/west-houston-trails/). There is an interactive map with existing and proposed trails and clickable links for a series of "spines" that are meant to be key paths that link other trails and areas of interest. When you click on the information link for each spine, there is a link to provide input on that spine as well as a link to comment on the overall mster plan.

If you are a cyclist in West Houston and want a far wider range of recreational and commuter cycling opportunities, this is your chance to be heard!

I think it is fantastic they are going to open up more trails and are asking input from the community.
I am about 5 minutes from Terry Hershey park Hwy 6, so I am pretty lucky.

I would love to be able to get over to Bear Creek park, so I will suggest that.
Not sure how they will get over or under I-10 though.

That's awesome, the clay rd <-> terry hershey area is probably the last area I need to be able to bike to work occasionally.

I am in exactly the same boat. My office is about to move to Enclave Parkway at Briar Forest. I have a route mapped out that is about 11.5 miles long, and the only sketchy part is the hwy 6 @ clay road area. If they build one or both of the two spines near there, they will be perfect for getting me to Eldridge, where I can then head down to the office.

Do I see a proposed trail/spine down Hwy 6??? C'mon, I think they're just messing with us, now.

Seriously, that's pretty sweet. Too bad I'm too far south on Hwy 6 for it it impact me. I'm convinced that Sugar Land is trying to turn it into a full-fledged typical Houston freeway/toll road.

I think at least north of I-10, they are talking about connecting paths to the bridges that already have separate bike lanes. If you click on the icon on each spine, it opens a popup with additional info about that proposed path.

I asked for an 'off the surface street' way to get from terry hershey/bw8 to harwin & rogerdale. That would make riding to work stupid easy.
Also, connecting terry hershey to the downtown bayou trails would make for an amazing way to bike across the city and not have to deal with traffic.

You will get real close to having that route if they do the spine down the utility easement that runs roughly parallel to Wilcrest. It will take you from TH to Harwin off the road. All you will need is a way to get over to Rogerdale, which will be about a block on the street.

Ok, I stand corrected. Just saw that Sugar Land is thinking about putting up 20% of the cost of a mobility project that will span a whole 2.5 blocks of Hwy 6...http://www.fortbendnow.com/2009/09/22/40605

Sorry for the tangent.
