September 11th, there was a discussion on the

"did you ride today"

thread - the thread was originally started by kenkayak -

regarding bearing arms.

Unfortunately, some remarks were made about kenkayak's spelling, and things got personal.

kenkayaks' last post was September 11th, and his last visit to the forum was September 13th. He used to post daily.

I thoroughly enjoyed his posts. He was simply a character living in the woods of Maine with a differing and unique perspective on life, which I think we should cherish and encourage, good spelling or not.

So, kenkayak, if you are just taking a needed break, I would like you to come back and begin posting again.

I think you were a great asset.

+1 Kenkayak adds a valuable perspective.

Everybody needs a place where they can spit on the floor and "voice their opinions."

I hope that Ken didn't get stuck in the woods while cutting firewood or have a more serious problem. Come on back Ken, you are welcome around my fire pit anytime.

That is a shame as he does have a lot to offer.

The best part of the 50+ forum is the overall lack of heated disagreements especially on things as trivial as spelling. We aren't all scholars but in this age group, all have something to contribute based of life experience. We all share a common passion in life. That should be enough.

I hope Ken returns and chooses to post again.

Attacking spelling is really a cheap shot. That's how it's intended, a way to attack when one doesn't have an argument.

I just use it as something to say when I don't have anything to contribute. Criticism of somebody else's spelling and grammar is SO much easier than creative thought.

Did I say that out loud?

As someone much wiser than me once said, "Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make yours shine brighter. It just makes the room a little darker."

The English language is wonderful, but very tricky. I recently read an article on what is considered funny in various cultures and languages. Wordplay and puns were number one for English-speakers.

Inadvertant humor aside, everyone should be (and is) welcome on here. You too, kenkayak.

I have interacted with kenkayak and linked him to this thread.

He said he will lurk a bit and keep up with some of the folks.

I know how he feels. But to me people that does this they should be KICK out of this place and never be able to join us again. But this is the way I feel only. Now my spelling sucks big time lol.The way I see it id you can't read my post then move on to the next.I do hope you will come back and I think you was the one that gave me a link to Bangor Maine.I hear you are from Maine so bet you was.Now days when I see people do this to some one it makes me sick.Look we all live on this earth and we all love to ride bicycle so lets have some fun and forget people like this person.Anyway hope you get to read this and all the others here we MISS YOU.Take care.

Several of us have taken stick from some other members and it can get a bit vicious at times. No idea why but some personalities just do not gel and we have never met each other. Eventually the problem passes- but not always without someone being lost. Just make certain it is not you Ken.

I agree with everyone else...come back kenkayak !
He started a great thread, one I post in a lot, and he is missed for sure.
Personal attacks can be harmful and hopefully he will see this and time will heal things.
I liked how he rode with his dog all the time.

Thanks for your efforts DnvrFox. I don't post much but do enjoy what others offer. Ken is a great read, and sounds like a genuinely good man. Lack of his input would be missed here.

I hope my mangled spelling doesn't offend. I spend most of my day speaking Spanish which does a wonderful job of scrambling my English. But, if anyone wants, I can have my dear wife correct my posts, and theirs as well, since she is an editor.

If spelling was that important I'd still be in the 4th grade.

Kenkayak, come back please. You're needed here in BF 50+. I always look forward to read your daily posts. You are certainly missed if you don't post and come back to the forum.

kenkayak, it's obvious that people here care about you. Don't let some silly crap on the internet keep you from enjoying the forum.

I went back and read that thread. One person sounded off on kenkayak's spelin and the rest of us it seemed came to his defense. The thread was remarkable for it's lack of venom I thought, especially considering its subject matter (I'm conservative so I have no problem with the concept of firearms although I don't own one myself).

Having said that, sometimes it's great to power down and read books and stuff. With all the wild stuff flying around the internets these days, I think it's a good idea to take a break sometimes.

For me english is a fur'n language. I am much happier in the language of mathmatics. But I have never been personally attacked for poor english here, other things maybe, but not that. One should expect that in this diverse group we will poke at each others politics, opinions or claims and that should be expected. That kind of discussion promotes thought and in some cases change. However - even in this group a thick skin is neccessary. I believe we need all points of view, personnally I like a lively and thoughtful discussion, agreement is purely boring. So I hope kenkayak comes back and joins in on our discussions.

BTW - I too am conservative in my beliefs although I don't always follow the national conservative agenda.

Just found this thread, don't know how I missed it. I was getting ready to add my words of encouragement to ken and I see on 9/20 he posted again so I will just say welcome home kenkayak.
