Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking at bikes online, and being very very cautious about it. I was wondering if someone with a Cannondale could validate this tidbit of information...

I asked for the serial number on a 2001 R600, and the seller tells me they can't see it because it is covered by shifter cables and "a mount". Is this plausible?

I'll be using escrow regardless, but I can save myself the fees if this guy's a phony off the bat.

Yea, the serial numbers are on the bottom of the bracket and it is covered by a plate that the shifter cables run through. Mine has one screw and all you have to do is unscrew it and move the plate over to read all of the number.

Thanks, much appreciated.

Yes, you can loosen the screw w/o messing anything up. It should be easy.

hmm i think my serail number is to the side of the bb.
#1 is the serial and #2 is just some number i dont know what it means(probably model?)

hope this helps

but as bdog said, it could be under the bb bracket and the plate is covering it.

hmmm upon further inspection i dont think theres enough room on the bb plate to have the whole serial number there.
i think mine is on the arrow #1 it goes 0560193
and in arrow #2 it goes B1 0302

The next year they must have started putting the serials on the bottom bracket, because mine is in two lines under the black plate with about 3 or 4 number covered up.

Well, it's a moot point. The seller is "unable" to provide additional photos, "unwilling to dismantle the bike to appease my curiosity" regarding the serial number, and refuses to use escrow (a service he's never heard of and does not trust). Not a chance I'm sending him a dime.

I don't blame you on that deal. Keep checking and you will find some other good deals on used Cannondales.
