Picked up a 1959 Schwinn Panther II 3 speed. It looks like this was the only year that Panther II's were made. Also the austrian 3 speed is supposedly unique for to this year. Any idea on value (both in current state and complete restore)?
First 2 photos are at the yard sale.
Second 2 photos are after a light brush and water bath.
Looks like almost a complete bike. I know the headlight is not original. And I am guessing the seat should be a dark red and white S seat.
Any feedback is appreciated.

No idea about the pricing but I'm damn sure that's a great buy.
I would leave the paint original, do a rust treatment on the rusty parts, polish it up, and you will have a really nice bike.
I don't deal with cruiser style bikes, so no idea on value, but this is going to be a good/great one! I would buy it myself (perhaps at an over market price, as I don't know the value here), just to have a really sweet vintage cruiser.

I restored our 1873 house, but I have never restored an old bike before. I do have some of the chrome parts soaking in vinegar (see if it works).
I am at a loss as to what to do to treat the rust on the painted surfaces. HELP HELP HELP!!!
Bill where in the NC mtns are you? We used to have a place up in Franklin.

Rust treatment has been covered numerous times. Lots of good info out there. Use the search function for oxalic acid, sort by relevance.
I live part time in Haywood County.

Great info regarding OA, but it looks like it is only for bright work. WHat about the painted parts. I want to keep the original paint. I have started working on the frame with rubbing compound. Is there something else to use for painted parts?

Make me an offer I can't refuse.
