Riding for fun is probably the real reason many of us commute, at least that's what really keeps me happy. If I didn't love riding, I don't think I'd commute by bike. Why should I? (Don't answer that! Stick to the point... :p )
In fact, when I think about driving a car, I realize I would rarely get in one and drive around, with no purpose other than, "to drive." I would go from A to B and back to A again, as quickly as possible.
The bike is so effective at delivering joy to the rider that the line between "getting there" and "having fun" becomes blurred. I could end up riding my bike almost anywhere, in the process of getting to B. If I didn't have to get to B, I might not even arrive there!
Is that bad? OF COURSE IT IS! After all, life isn't supposed to be fun.
