Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - I was severely injured in a crash saturday...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. ...but still want to talk about fixied-geared bikes when I'm able.

(I was forced to crash by a guy who looked back and watched me go down hard, before leaving the scene on his motorcycle. My left shoulder was crushed and had to be bolted back into place. I have a 35% chance of needing a complete shoulder replacement later on. I also broke a rib and have massive areas of swelling and road rash. No clue when a bike is back in my future.)

Tomorrow I should get another set of tubular fixie wheels that were won on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3687264518&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT

and another set of custom tubulars that were re-dished to also be used on a fixed-gear as well.

My next, fith, project is a Lotus Elan...number six may be another Motorbacane Mirage.

NO FIXED-GEAR WAS HURT IN MY CRASH...MY ROADIE IS FEELING PRETTY SICK THOUGH.
Thanks for allowing a short rant and explaination of my circumstances.

Mr. Shadow - ouch. Glad you're okay enough to get on a computer. Man that's gotta hurt.

Good to see the spirits are up!

lots of pain, but long days and night to fill...can take up to three oxycodones every three hours as needed. i also am hooked up to a polar3000 cooling pump to help with the shoulder swelling. my left hand looks like a sponge bob character though.

thanks for responding...i like alone and this is my second major surgery of the season...already had a non-cancerous testicular operation and was trying to get in a few miles when i went down. :(

just talk back a little and keep me coherent. ;)

A little over six years ago I was also injured badly in a wreck. I was on motorycle and not my bicycle. I broke my shoulder in three places and also broke seven ribs all on my left side along with other injuries. It was almost three months before I was even able to sleep in a bed. I slept sitting up. To add insult to injury I couldn't even go to the bathroom by myself. I had to be waited on hand an foot.
Even though my accident was on a motorcylce I was a avid bicycle rider at the time and was riding close to three hundred miles a week. It took about six months to heal enough to be able to ride my motorcyle but the accident ended my bicycling for what I though for good. I tried several times to ride my bicycle since then but it was just to painful.
Now the good news is I had a operation done on my shoulder a little over a year ago to repair damages that was not found at the time of the accident. This past April I started back riding my bicycle and have rode about 1200 miles in since then. I recently crashed on my bicycle and broke a couple ribs on the same side as I did when I had to motorcyle accident. A couple of broken ribs don't hurt nearly as bad as seven ribs and I am still riding my bike. Fortunately I did not reinjure my shoulder.
This reason I am telling you this to tell you not to get discourage now It may take time but hopefully you will be back riding your bike once again just like I am doing now.

When the swelling goes down and the rib knits a bit, you should be able to roll a while on the trainer. Slap the TDF highlights on the VCR and wait for fuller recovery..........

Come back slow, don't be in a counter-productive hurry.

there's always recumbent to help with the shoulder anyway. also, what caused the crash?

Polar Machines remind me of my knee surgery: Complete ACL replacement and cartiledge work (25% removed, and some sutures to keep what was left in place). All thanks to Airborne School, 100lb rucks, and rugby.

no riding of any kind until the swelling in my left him reduces. as to how it happened...i was riding to a friend's house and the rider swerved towards me, forcing into debris on the road. my front handlebar rotated under the toptube, violently ripping the front tubular off the rim. it all happened very fast, but explains why i had no control over the bike and why my shoulder became exposed.
