Professional Cycling For the Fans - Think it bugs Lance to have Cheryl hanging out at the start and finish?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I think she would be a distraction if I were in his position. (Incidentally, I don't see the big deal with Cheryl. Everyone says, "oh, she's so hot..." but I don't think she is spectacularly good looking -- especially in the ranks of millionaire pro athletes.)

If he didn't want her there she wouldn't be there and if she didn't want to be there she wouldn't be there. As for her looks, I'm guessing that Lance probably isn't looking for your or my approval so what we think is probably of little consequence. As for this whole debate about Lance and Sheryl, let me pull out my soap box here for a moment and pedel some snake oil....

To be successful, a person must do a lot of things right and one of them is to learn to figure out which life goals are achievable and worth pursuing and which ones are not. If a person understands this particular lesson of life they will apply it to most every aspect of their life and, along the way, quickly learn that one of the easiest things to do in order to succeed is to learn how cut their losses.

Regardless of how others might view it in the short term, quitting while you are ahead or cutting you losses when you are behind is not in and of itself a bad thing. Quite simply, pursuing unrealistic goals or things that you don't have the aptitude or a passion for needlessly wastes energy, resources, or time that can be put to more productive use on realistic goals that are achievable.

That said, I believe anyone who has followed Lance Armstrong's career, read his books, listened to him speak, and/or listened to what those who know him best say about him will have quickly realized that he is success-oriented, driven, and understands how to set and achieve goals. Moreover, you'll also understand that having beaten cancer and cheated death, he places a premium on living life to it's fullest. So, what does any of this have to do with Lance and his current or any future love interests? I think it's pretty clear a lot of people could learn a lot about life from following the model that Lance has used to guide his life.... including his relationships.

Life's too short to remain in relationships that don't work; nobody wins in those situations and the longer you drag them out the more damage you do to all concerned. Therefore, you cut your losses by salvage a friendship if you can, agreeing on how to meet any financial and parental obligations, and then get on with life by finding and pursuing the goals that are achievable and worth pursuing... to include new relationships. And, like all things in life that are worth pursuing, throw yourself into it if you want to get the most out of it.

Just something to think about...

Hey guys...the paint on my frame hasn't bubbled the way some people have described their paint bubbling after a good soaking in Aircraft Stripper. What gives?

Sing this little rhyme I penned to the tune of that children's teasing rhyme that has the finsihing line "First comes love, then comes marriage then comes a baby in a baby carriage"
Lance and Sheryl, France is where they be.
B-I-Kayay-I-N-G
First comes Basso, then comes Ullrich,
then passes Lance, quick quick quick!

I never understood the whole infatuation with celebrities. My wife frequents a website where every other post is about what some starlette was wearing while she was trying to shop for tampons amongst all the papparazzi following her. I can hear the conversation now..."Did you hear? Sheryl Crow uses Tampax brand Tampons! I'm gonna use those now!" Crazy. It's like a cult thing...people watch every star's every move, only to copy their style cuz a star wore that brand of clothing only to then turn around and talk **** about that same star cuz she broke up with that cute star guy. Geez....

Yes, Lance and Sheryl and all the other TdF guys are public figures. That doesn't give all of us the right to diss on Lance (or anyone else for that matter) cuz he's now divorced from his wife and he has children. It's better than staying married for the sake of the children. He got divorced. et over it. It's not like he wasted all his earnings on strippers and *****s while his wife was home with the kids. Come on.

I reread this post and there is no rhyme or reason to it. Just a mish mash of thoughts I guess.

Go Lance!

Ironic that you say that given what you posted immediately preceding your comment.

And perhaps you should get off your own high horse. Sheesh, they're freakin celebs, for godssake! Everyone is bound to talk about it, and they obviously are (the fact that people are participating in it, including yourself should say something about who's watching the soaps), and obviously, they don't care. And please point out to me where I said kissing in public was immoral- I don't see it. But I do read his books, I make an interpretation from it on how he views the role of women in his life, and I watch the way he conducts himself on television. He might be your god and you might think he's all golden in your eyes, but the man has flaws, he definitely publicizes certain aspects of his life, and when people comment, he makes no statements otherwise. I don't care if he does comment or not, because it's his life, but as long as he doesn't, speculation will continue.

Again, as I said before, he's a PUBLIC FIGURE. So is Sheryl. So when they go out in public and show acts of affection towards each other, people talk. This is no different from when Lance decided to associate with Dr. Ferrari- people speculated, and had he not intervened and said something, people would have continued to speculate about his assocation. If he didn't want people to speculate, he would say something. Being a public figure has it's price- your private life becomes public, and people comment. That's the way it goes, and to act as though it doesn't means someone is either completely obtuse or living in a hole in the ground.

YOu've reached bottom and have begun to dig.
You're depriving a villiage somewhere of an idiot.

We don;t own public figures. They're people and have errrr lives, which apparently you don't have.

Quit your "People magazine" logi and read you again.

PS: I'm not a Lance fan, I just find your comments only suitable for the Lonely Housewives tea party.

cheers

Thanks, Kaiser! I saw that image in Google's image search but I couldn't get to the actual image. Oh, man I'm going to have to run at 1600x1200 now to make a wallpaper of that. Damn this laptop, damn it to hell.

I think lance likes having sheryl around and being in the spotlight, otherwise she'd be invisible. SHe's a public figure as well and is used to publicity. Don't tell me lance is some shrinking violet, I am sure he loves the attention. Listen the guy is a wealthy successful athlete, he's divorced, what's he supposed to do, whack off in a closet? He's enjoying his single life. Hey, how many guys with one ball can say that? LOL

First criteria to musicians for me is their music..That is their claim to fame. .Crow is a favorite of mine when you rate music...He looks is Lance's business...
For music and humor, Lance's freinds has an appeal to me.Williams was hysterical in his recent HMO New York tour. And Williams is pretty good as a cycling advocate too..
Any one seen him in his daily crossing of the Golden Gate.? Cycling advocates can take all the notarity it can get.

He's divorced from Kristen, get over it.
I'm sure given his fastidiousness about warm ups
preparation etc. if it bothered him Cheryl would not be
there.
Podium girls get thrown off the tour for fraternization
with the riders, ask Hincapies fiance.
(btw, she's pregnant and they're not married, where's the
indignation about that? oh yeah I forgot, he's not lance).

Marty

Glad you said this...people who aren't there talking to the man himself are just star f**c**n*. I like when people say they don't like somebody...now maybe that person shares a cup of joe with LA...but I seriously doubt it...what we know is that LA rode up Alp de Huez at an average speed of 15 MPH...and that's just not right!

I agree - are we so bored with our own lives that we have to follow these people around and constantly form opinions on their personal lives?

I know people who used to ride with Lance, and some who used to race with him back in Texas. From all accounts he was an arrogant jerk. He seems less of one today, but he still has an edge about him - enough so that I'm not sure I'd get along with him in person. But he has what it takes to win the Tour de France in spades, and he has used his position in the public eye to bring about positive changes in certain areas. He also has been gracious to those he has beaten in the Tour, at least relatively speaking (certainly much more so than the typical American athletic paragon, or even athletes like Beloki, Pantani, or Simoni). AND he has been very gracious to those who have helped him get there, so I personally hope he continues winning as long as he is able.

Results there may vary, so you are entitled to disagree.

As for any specifics about his personal life, I really don't think I can comment on the dissolution of his marriage, other than to say that my parents stayed together "for the kids" and it was miserable. Kids are much better off when Mommy and Daddy are not constantly at each others' throats; so if your relationship has come to a point where that's going to be the case ... by all means try to keep it together. And if that fails, break it off. For the kids.

Finally, according to the interview I read in Outside magazine, he is not a friend of George W. Bush's. He has only met him several times and was appointed to an honorary position. He initially agreed with the Iraq war, but now thinks it was unwise. He also disapproves of the behavior of his fellow Americans re. their attitudes towards the French over the whole affair: "If the French fans behaved that way, I'd be knocked off my bike" (paraphrase, but it was close to that).
