Foo - G-20 in Pittsburgh

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As some of you may know, the G-20 is going to be in Pittsburgh this week. The protesters are already camping out in various parks throughout the Pittsburgh area. Hopefully nothing crazy happens but I have a feeling some bad shi~ is going to go down within the next few days. I'm going to use this thread as witness of the G-20 Protests.

Two military helicopters just flew past my window at work. Also, I just found out on the radio that 600 Nation Guardsmen are going to help protect the city.

The Steelers are the best team to every play the game. And yes, they will still suck.

I'd trade the Falcons for them. Hell, I'd take the '76 Buccaneers and their 0 and 14 record for the Falcons.
You can have the Cowboys, but you have to room with Jerry Jones.
Deal.
Can't be worse than Arthur Blank.

The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385) passed on June 18, 1878, after the end of Reconstruction, with the intention (in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807) of substantially limiting the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement. The Act prohibits most members of the federal uniformed services (today the Army, Air Force, and State National Guard forces when such are called into federal service) from exercising nominally state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain "law and order" on non-federal property (states and their counties and municipal divisions) within the United States.
So much for that... maybe they're claiming this is "state service" even though it's a Federal event... I dunno... IANAL...

Mmmm... I don't see a problem with Brazil attacking as long as they bring me some capirinhas, pao de queijo, and feijoada. Just saying! And one of those sweet super-heavy singlespeed Brazilian-built Barraforte bikes. :thumb:
Will it be a full Brazilian attack?
Will it be a full Brazilian attack?
I think they need to keep a landing strip.

This is the mask I'm wearing during the protest. You can tell it's authentic since I'm holding my sign upside down.

Oh, yeah, and the cheese. If they could bring me a whole bunch of coalho cheese in addition to all of the stuff previously mentioned, I will step aside and let the Brazilians have the USA.

My son's friend in Pitt said he saw six buses of policemen dropped off near the university near the cathedral.
I'm hoping nobody does anything too loony, protest-wise.
I'm also hoping that the G-20 can get something going in a positive direction, finance-wise. What they do (or don't do) affects everybody on the planet, member or not.
So that's ^^^ where the hope went.
I can see the airport from my office. Air Force One is on the ground along with what looks like Canada. A big Airbus just arrived that looks like an Eastern bloc country. Now the roads will be closed, yippee! The city is a police state right now.
Man I wanna see some 60's type police brutality and yippie-type vengeance. The 60's were great spectator events. The cheap seats were the safest but gave you no cred.
My pics are boring. The discussion on Bike Pgh forums all talk about how awesome it is to have the city streets for cyclists. More cyclists and media down there than anyone else. That, and a lot of horse ****.

You got bad information.
First, it's National Guardsmen, not Nation.
And second, it's WAY more than 600.

I'm planning on riding into the city tomorrow myself. It really was not that bad today. I figure if I can stay away from the large groups, I will be fine.

What I've seen so far is a bunch of twenty year old kids that need a good shower. Apparently they can't draw the conclusion that if you have 4000 policemen in a city that normally has 400, there not screwing around. Who said it in this forum that the police are upholding the constitution they are controlling the situation. Same thing like the superbowl win. The violent demonstrations were all people from somewhere else.
Aparently when I need a raise I've forgotten to take the neccesary feces into the nmeeting with me.
