Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - Need list of double centuries

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone know of web sites that list double century rides EAST of the Mississippi? Virtually every double I see is western US. I'm looking for some I can drive to from Ohio.
If you don't know of any websites, I'll happily take the names of any rides or clubs who put on longer rides.
I'll probably do some brevets but am really looking for organized rides that may have a larger attendance
Thanks
Try some of the links on my Links page ... they might help.

I don't see any doubles listed on the schedule, but the Louisville Bicycle Club does have a series of 9 centuries in 9 days coming up in October.

I didn't go thru the list of links on your site, especially since the most recent YEAR mentioned appears to 2007.
However, I did notice the 2006 24-hour championships from Port Byron, IL. My hometown is only about 20 miles from Port Byron (if one knows the direct route). I was hoping your story might have some info on the route because sometimes I visit "up home" and I take my bike. And while I do NOT need to follow someone else's route when I go home (I usually make up routes that include childhood stomping grounds), I played organized sports in / against Port Byron in that youthhood, and including a portion of the 24-hour day lap might be just crazy enough to be worth doing.
Any information still in your possession re the courses used then?

It depends on where in Ohio you are. These I have found for the Dc Randonneur club. I am not yet a member but as soon as I have the bike together I will be training and asking to join their ranks.
Just a note. I think these are just what is left. They seemed to have a ton of them listed a couple of months ago. Maybe just keeping an eye out is the key.
Are there any Randonneuring clubs in Ohio? I imagine there must be. Maybe finding and contacting them?
Either way, here is the DC Randonneur Club calander link

The Twin Cities Bicycling Club (I am not a member) puts on a double. I thought they did it every year but the website says 2008 - http://www.biketcbc.org/events/pbdc.html It starts in Anoka MN (on the east bank of the Mississippi :) ) and goes up to Mille Lacs and back. edit: The June 2009 TCBC newsletter shows the Paul Bunyan Double Century was ridden on June 27 this year - http://www.biketcbc.org/news/documents/0906TCBCNEWS_June09.pdf
skiffrun: The routes for the Ultra-Midwest 6/12/24-hour in Port Byron, IL are on the website: http://www.ultramidwest.net/UM/UM24/24Home.aspx Actually, the day loop was changed slightly and we rode 69.7 miles - continued straight at CP 23 (Manor Rd) to IL 92 and then back up to Hillsdale.

Well, I know some of those roads like the back of my hand. Especially the bits that went through Prophetstown -- I'm thinking the route came within a block of my mother's house, or at most three blocks if the route did not take Ill-Hwy-78 through "downtown", but only cut in from Spring Hill and took the "shortcut" to the highway. I have run more miles on some of those roads than I've cycled on them.
Do they do the 24-hour thing every year based in Port Byron? Looking at the 24-hour website a bit more, the answer to my question is: Yes.

Actually, re-reading your post, I'm thinking that the changed the route to possibly avoid some high water from the Rock River, so the route didn't go thru Prophetstown, but doubled back toward Hillsdale on IL-92. Yuk, what an ugly concrete thump-thump-thump ride that must have been.

...so the route didn't go thru Prophetstown
This year was my first time at the event but I think they used to run it on the Iowa side (Eldridge?). I think they've been running it in IL for the past 4 or 5 years. I actually didn't even get into Port Byron since I-80 was under constuction and the exit at the river was closed. We had to drive to the Hillsdale exit on I-88 and double back to the middle school.
We did go into Prophetstown and then turned off 78 to Spring Hill.

Aah, the route went clock-wise. I don't know why, but I was thinking counter-clockwise.
Iowa? Iowa?
I don't think I've heard of some place called "Iowa".
I have heard of place called Minnesota. ;)

My site is up to date to the end of 2008, with a casual mention of 2009:

And this is my Links page:

Well, now, that is wierd. This morning the year at the top of the list was 2007. But now it is clearly 2009.
I love technology that 5 or 10 % of the time when it actually works.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But the links page, the year at the top of the list is 2007. And refresh does not bring up any 2009. Clicking on "home" does lead to the home page where the year at the top of the list is 2009.
Seems to me that something is not quite correct there.

No, I haven't updated my Links page yet. :D I went through and updated a whole bunch of them, but missed that one. I'll get on it.
OK, it's fixed:

Don't know how soon or how far you want to ride, but September 26 & 27 there's a ride up the white pine trail, Not quite a century, 95 miles each way. But when I go I normally start out from home which adds another 17 miles each way.
Ken.
Edit: just checked site, and they say registration closes in two days, a bit soon to make plans!
