Road Cycling - Which bike should I get between the two?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a chance to get a hold of 2 different specialized bikes. 1) 2002 Spec. Allez Comp with speedplay pedals and a lighter seatpost and saddle for around $1100. This bike is in perfect shape and very well maintained. OR....

2) 2003 Spec. Allez Comp w/ no pedals for around 850 or so. This bike has not been used in some time so would need tune up and has some small chips in the paint on the top tube from a bike carrier.

Both bike have about the same amount of miles and the same components.

Which would you get??? Any insight would be great. Thanks

I'd go with the 2003 but that's just because I have a 2003 allez pro and love it

I would go for 2003 because its cheaper, you can get a nice set of look 5.1 for about 100 at performance (plus 20% coupon, and 10% team performance member). Saddle preference is very subject... a lighter saddle might not get your the most comfort. If you have a chance, ride both and see how they fit for you.

Assuming they fit exactly the same, get the one whose color you like the best.

Most likely you'll be riding this bike for quite some time. You'll eventually forget what you paid for it, but you will be reminded every day of how nice it feels to ride and how nice it looks.
