Lately I've been noticing a very pronounced muscle spasm (post-ride) in my right knee. I've had it operated on (about six years ago), but I dont think that has much to do with it. It isnt violent, but its there, and pretty persistent. The twitch is directly down from my patella (knee cap) on the inside of my leg.

Its a strange sensation, and I'm just curious if I should be worried, or if there is something I'm lacking in my diet that would lead to a muscle spasm.

Thanks,

Colin

Could be caused by dehydration and/or lack of potassium. See a doctor if it's worrying you.

What pedals do you use? How much float do they have? Can you adjust the amount of float?

I used to get similar twitches after I first started using clipless pedals. A few minor adjustments of my cleats (to let my heal swing out further) and it's gone.

I actually have toe-clips on my mountain bike. I had a bad experience with clip-ins that I havent been able to get around. I also think I need more float due to my bad knees. I think if I get a road bike I will have to do to clip -ins....anybody have a good (cheap) suggestion for a pedal with plenty of float? I guess its possible that its caused by dehydration, but I'm a little iffy on that. If I were dehydrated enough to cause a spasm, wouldnt I feel the effects elsewhere?

Maybe I'll buy some banannas and see if that helps.

Thanks for the replies.

My Shimano Ultegra pedals ($100 of ebay) have 6 degrees of float which satisfies my requirements. Like I said, originally, I had the float centered around a point that had my heal pointed in too far. Once I found the sweet spot, no more strange spasms.

I had knee problems before going to speedplays. Love my speedplays. No more knee problems.
