Southern California - Its Apple Pie Season Again: Julian or Oak Glen

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just went to Oak Glen last weekend. The apple pie at Law's was right out of the oven. Brought it home and it was still warm, all 4 pounds of it. Its now harvest time and the apples are just the right tartness for pie making. Law's is my favorite. Also went to their restaurant and had a bowl of their home made chili. If you go now, you'll beat the heavy traffic and crowded parking spaces. The apple cider for a gallon is now 10 bucks.
How are the roads for riding?
OC Wheelmen do a metric century around Oak Glen in late October. I suppose everything will be back to normal by then.
I figured all the apples would be burnt from the fire...

Engineers Road between Julian and Lake Cuyamaca has recently been resurfaced and it's terrific! I forgot my camera last time, but I won't make that mistake again.
Oak Glen is pretty & hilly, but the last two times I was there was on motorcycle and I don't recall their suitability for pedal-bikes.

Oak Glen Road is OK...we went up the side from Mill Creek for the OC Metric. It's a narrow shoulder near the top and, combined with all the tourist buses and 97 degrees, it was sketchy getting to the park. The other way up Oak Glen Road is used for Breathless Agony and I prefer that way. It's a nice descent down to Mill Creek Ranger Station.
What I'm interested in is whether the road was damaged by any of the fires.

I saw no road damage last weekend. I took I-10 and off at Yucaipa Road, going east and then to Oak Glen Road to Potato Canyon Road which connects back to Oak Glen Road. I stopped there at Law's Restaurant and went back the same way.
The climb up Oak Glen Rd from Bryant is awesome. Nice grade with a few nice curves. It averages around 7% grade. Combine that with Hwy 38 to Onyx Summit and you have a great climbing day.
