I have a Sekai 2000 Super Sx. I'm going to trade it for a friend's Bianchi Nuovo Alloro, but I need to know what it is worth so I can make the trade fair. Her Nuovo is celeste, in really nice shape...but that's really beside the point. She values her bike at around $250-300. I'm interested in knowing what my bike is worth.

In question is a black Sekai 2000 Super Sx. It has some roughed up paint here and there, but no serious rusting on the frame. There is rust on the chain and rear gears though. The stickers on it boast "Champion No. 5 Cromoly Steel. Seamless P. G. Tubes. Tange Industries Ltd." and "Yamaguchi Sports Frame" I don't know anything about the history of the bike. For anyone short on time, a rough estimate would be greatly appreciated. For everyone else, I can give a rundown of the components (the ones I can ID):
Suntour Shift levers,
Suntour AR front derailleur,
Suntour V-GT Luxe rear derailleur,
Sugino GT crank arms,
Sugino chainwheels,
Sakae Custom Japan handlebars,
Dia-Compe brake lever,
Dia-Compe brakes
Suzue Hubs,
Sekai Deluxe tires,
Avocet touring saddle,

The serial number on the bottom bracket reads "Y3HC797" The cranks read "165" which I assume is the size, then "3 GC" The front derailleur has "ZE" printed on it, and the rear has "XE". That makes me think the bike is around an '83.

I live in Santa Cruz and there is a very strong bike culture here. Bikes are very common...but they're in high demand too. The University helps with that.

Anyway, take a look at the pictures and tell me what you think. Thank you!

Your bike will need quite a bit of work. If a person is handy, none of the work would be difficult. But if they have to take it to a shop, it could cost quite a bit to do it all. As a project, I would value it around $50 in my market. I would consider my market to be average pricing, to slightly above average. A good solid bike market, but not one of those ridiculous markets. I have no idea on your market.

Champion #5 is good tubing, but it is the lowest (worst) grade of Tange cromoly tubing. Champion starts at #5 and goes to #1. #1 is the best. I like all Suntour components, the AR model is one of their lower end models. They work fine, but are another sign of a lower grade bike (not bottom end for sure).

In general, everyone wants bikes that are fully rehabbed, ready to ride, and super clean. People buying projects want deals, great deals. I usually buy bikes similar to this one (components, grade and condition) for around $25.

Thanks for the reality check. My housemate has been looking for a bike...I guess I found one he can afford! Haha.
