I am planning to ride about 50 or 55 miles Sunday morning, but then I'll be fasting for 24 hours starting at sundown. I'll get in my usual post-ride meal, as well as a good dinner (albeit a bit earlier than usual). Am I going to be sorry mid-afternoon Monday? Have any of you ever tried this? Should I shorten the ride? should I eat more before, during, and/or after the ride than I ordinarly would?

Thanks for any advice you may have (and Happy New Year to my fellow Jews out there).

You'll be OK. If you feel a little hungry in the afternoon, eat a series of small high carb snacks with water, then go for a good bit of fat with dinner. On YK, just stay in bed, read Torah, have some love, and go to the concluding service. You'll repent of not doing that more often. That's the tradition. Toothbrushing is optional. L'shana tovah.

Ummm, here's my Orthodox cyclist view.
I ride over 7000 miles a year an I am 50 yo. The bottom line is this. If our brothers and sisters could survive the Holocaustwithout the possibility of foood or drink and of course no air conditioning or heat, couldn't we manage for 25 hours???? Funny thing happens when the fast is over, we can last longer and the reason is simple. The reason is because we can eat, we as minutes before we could eat. I fast every Fast day on my calendar and there are several more than Yom Kippur, there was one this past Monday called the Fast of Gedalliah.
I biked to work (24 miles) and took it easy. Yes , I was thirsty but managed fine until the fast was over.

That said, I will ride in the am maybe 40-50 or so, Hydrate on Saturday and keep my fluids up on Sunday until 5:30 or so. I will be in synagouge and pray for my life because that's what this day is about. It's the final appeal we make before th real SUPREME COURT who decides our fate.

By the way it may e a good idea to do an easy ride so that you are rested.

Have a happy and healthy New Year and an easy Fast.

I've done a century the day before. It's not pleasant, but hydration is more of the problem, I think. So, get lots of protein and carbs and drink drink drink before sunset.

How'd it work out for you OP?

It was a piece of cake. ;-D

I made a point of eating plenty for lunch and a pre-sundown dinner on Sunday, with a healthy snack in between. Fasting was no harder than it usually is. I was hungry at the end, of course, but that's the point. As usual, I found the fast to be a cleansing experience, both literally and figurative.

Next time, though, I'll pay more attention to pre-fast rehydrating. I was definitely thirstier at the end than I usually am.

This year, the Yom Kippur / biking schedule is flip-flopped from last year. If I eat the usual carb- and dairy-loaded break-fast Saturday evening, a normal breakfast Sunday morning, and plenty of fluids at both, I assume I'll be set for a Sunday ride. If any of you have advice for something special I should be doing, please let me know.

Thanks, and L'Shana Tova.

I Plan on doing 125 the day after.
Hydrating after the Fast, but especially before hand.
Taking in easy carbs and protein during the am of the ride and see how I feel as a gauge.
My hydration plan for the day will be the usual. I take in about 30-40 ounces of fluids every 30 miles or so baswed on temps and effort.

You can do it, just get some rest and your set
