Been thinking the maths over for two weeks, absence of computer preventing actual computation.
Got home, spent the last day checking the maths (and correcting it!), and then getting excel to do something useful with it.

Attached profile actually consists of only 160 data points (r, theta), but there's over 13,000 cells behind it. Possibly I've done it a lazy way, but it seemed the most straightforward. Would have helped if I could have written functions, but want to open it in OO too.

Just waiting to hear back from my cousin, hoping it is actually vaguely the right shape!
Will increase the data points to smooth it out if it is right.

edit - doh, google says I could have written those functions!

It does look a bit odd, I'll grant you!

I hope it's the profile you'd get when feeding and rotating a cylindrical rod past an angled conical cutting wheel.

Errm. Not sure how to better explain, sorry!

So after rotating the cylinder past the conical grinder, do you wind up w/ an inclined plane wrapping around it, screw/bolt-thread style? I guess the profile depends on how many revolutions you make from end to end. Or am I completely off base?

I think you're spot on.

Propagate that profile into the page while rotating it.
Idea is to end up with something along the lines of a drill bit type fluting, would do another cut but rotated by 180 degrees.

For some reason I'm getting errors for some parameter values, but I'm not even gonna look into it till I get a yay or nay from my cousin, whether I'm close to what it should be.

I do apologise. Been one of those days!
Home alone. All morning spent coaxing my mind into strange geometrical shapes.

But it's ok. The wine is open, the music is atypical and turned up loud, all is well....
