Do you have a map of the route for we uninitiated?
Also mileage and climbage?

We should plan for something in mid Oct (Tour de Poway is on the 4th). We should also start at North County Fair that way once we reach Pie, it's all mostly downhill. We just need to find a 'safer' stretch between Julian and Ramona. The route is basically, Kit Carson Park, Wolhford, Valley Center, Harrah's, South Grade, East Grade, Mesa Grande, Pie, Ramona, Highland Valley, Bandy, 78 (we should cut into Milky Way, no cars), San Pasqual, Kit Carson Park.

sorry, newbie -- "pie"? Is this a reference to Julian or Oak Glen in the other thread? I could imagine that being a pretty area to ride in...

See post above for the route. I have the old routeslip but it's in a file cabinet 6 feet away and I'm eating and talking on the phone now.

Old Julian Highway was resurfaced recently. It adds a few pedalstrokes, but is scenic and takes you off the busy 78 for a spell.

I'll probably do the TdP but will start from my house early, that way once I hit the turn off to Bandy Canyon, I'll just go straight across and head home via Del Dios. As for the jersey, no thanks, I prefer non-pink colors - it would clash with my bike don't ya know. Besides I wouldn't fit in with your, ummm, group of North County so called 'friends'.

Rather touchy today aren't we? Did we not get our daily steroid injection? I didn't say I wouldn't ride with you, I just said no to PINK. Besides, who took off early from my TourOfCali ride last month, huh? Who's the anti-social now?

So what's up with that? The "long riders" can't quite handle triple digit mileage? I'll see you there regardless.

in. there's food to eat besides pie, right? burritos and such? The Julian Pie Co. is at an intersection that has a market. We pass a lot of stores - the one at the top of So. Grade, at Lake Henshaw, the pie stop and we usually stop at the AM/PM in Ramona. There's a long stretch between the AM/PM and the end. We should add another stop in Escondido.

This is a bit too masochistic for my liking. But I'll give it a second thought after this Sunday's ride.

We should add another stop in Escondido.

Like the Wild Animal Park? Once we get into Escondido, Kit Carson Park will be the last stop and that comes several miles after Bandy Canyon.

If we start at Kit Carson Park, that's only about 5 miles after Bandy. There's really no need for water stop.

I'm with you in the beginning, but I'm in it for the whole deal. When ever I count kilometers, it's triple digits starting with the number 2, minimum.

I'm good for the pie ride for sure. Late October or early November. It's going to to be very warm and windy the next few weeks. Lets start at Kit Carson or the mall. I'm not really too keen on Wohlford at the end, especially late in the day and full of pie.

Ha! It's only about 90 miles, according to GMaps:

Click for Pie-Route (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=E+Valley+Pkwy&daddr=State+Park+Rd+to:Lake+Henshaw+to:Mesa+Grande+Rd+to:santa+ySABEL,+California+to:Old+Julian+Hwy+ to:ramona,+ca+to:Highland+Valley+Rd+to:33.153649,-117.032547&hl=en&geocode=Fb7w-QEdBD4G-Q%3BFdZW_AEdG8EI-Q%3BFU4l-wEdNpYK-SlB42Jdbb_bgDFeCxe1X77C8g%3BFfwl-gEd1IIK-Q%3B%3BFa5N-AEdWgIK-Q%3B%3BFcQF-AEdtB4H-Q%3B&mra=pe&mrcr=1,2&mrsp=8&sz=12&via=3,5,7&sll=33.122313,-117.018814&sspn=0.215076,0.434647&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=11).

Looks like it will be fun if we make it from Santa Ysabel to Old Julian Road in one piece. (That stretch can get a little trafficky on weekend afternoons.)

Three or four people is the PERFECT pack! Less waiting, less bathroom stops, reduced separation anxiety & communication problems, and just enough people to sustain a brisk moving paceline. You can't back out--the invitations were mailed out with your letterhead.

I'm doing it, even if alone. If the weather is anything like yesterday's Palomar jaunt, it's going to be a memorable ride.

It was you, Chris and Robert.

Where did you go today? Did you skip San Elijo?

We started with close to 20 and ended up with 5.

i have never done it. it looks fairly difficult - moreso than atoc stage 8. but you don't have to limit yourself to 1 slice of pie. i hear you can get lots of tacos and coffee and other stuff too.

i found and replaced a blown fuse in my car. it runs now. i'm not too keen on doing this ride alone, but if others are still in, i'm game. i hear grumpy wants to come for some chocolate htfu, whatever that is
