Try this route for those who enjoy beautiful riding in the Southeast portion of our beautiful state:
Start in Sunsites, AZ on US 191. Head south to Sunizona, then turn left heading east on US 181. Take US 181 east until it heads north. You will have fantastic views of the valley during this part of the ride. This road then intersects with US 186 at the Chiracahua National Monument turnoff. Continue North on US 186 through the town of Dos Cabezas (no water or services) and enjoy a 6 mile downhill ride. Turn left on Kansas Settlement Rd and travel through the valley's farmland. At Birch Rd., turn right heading west to US 191. Turn left heading south to your starting point in Sunsites. This route is approximately 80 mi. with relatively little elevation gain. Bring plenty of water. Traffic on these roads is light to almost nonexistent. The scenery is gorgeous, and a side trip to Chiricahua National Monument (time permitting) would be awesome. Check it out!:)

can you make a route bikely.com?

Or google my maps.

Very nice area and very remote.

If you're going to advertise such a remote route, you really need to identify water stops that you know of. No way would I start an 80-mile ride without knowing that. I can't possibly carry enough water from the start.

81.82 miles total. Water stops appear fairly limited with the possible exception of Dos Cabezas and Willcox if you don't mind doing some backtracking.

Thanks for the suggestion. Though it's close to our Arizona place we've never explored that corner.

On this route there is water in Sunsites at the start, water in Sunizona, no water in Dos Cabezas, and water about 12 miles down Kansas Settlement Rd. I brought 7 bottles and that was fine for this time of year. By the way, Border patrol agents frequent these roads. You would see one at least every 30 minutes. You can flag one down for water as they carry water for the undocumented border crossers, and it is the law in AZ that if you request water from someone who has it, you cannot be denied - at least that is what I've been told.:)

There used to be a ride that started in Wilcox about a dozen years ago called the Butterfield Cycling Challenge that we rode several times that pretty well did most of that route for a full century. Great ride.

Thank you so much for the route map.
If everything goes all right I am taking this route on T-day.
I may opt out going into Mexico and then would come up to Tucson Via I19 and F Roads from Nogalas. I haven't gotten that far in my planning. 289 doesn't look very good which is on my route map. i have been to Tombstone, Bisbee, and the Chir. NM.

I would love to do another Coronado trail trip, yet in November no thanks.
