I'm looking to add to my list of 24-hour road cycling events with more events from the US, if there are any, and with events from other parts of the world. If you know of any that are not on my list, let me know!

So far I've got:

Bike Sebring, Florida, February
Davis Bike Club 24-hour Challenge, California, April
National 24-hour Challenge, Michigan, June
Dream Ride Longest Day Cycling Challenge, Pennsylvania, June
Saratoga 24-hour Bicycle Race, New York, July
New England 24-hour Challenge, Massachusetts, August
UMCA 24-hour Championship, Iowa, September
Ring of Fire 24-hour, Oregon, September
Texas 24-hour Time Trial, Texas, October

Machka, are you up to riding any 24's yet?

I just did the FM.24.09 - the Faster Mustache 24-hour Urban Rally http://24.fastermustache.org/

But alas, they're claiming this is the last year for the event. Long live the FM24.

I was really bummed that I missed this, but I was riding the Last Chance, so at least I had a good excuse!

I'm especially disappointed that this was the last year for it. I'm hopeful that someone, if not in ATL, then elsewhere, will take up the idea and bring it back in '10.

Nowhere near!! 20 km is my long distance ride just now!!

But I'd really like to build up to doing 24's again.

Good enough excuse. ;) I'm super-bummed it's no more. It was a blast, if not a bit insane, but a great mix of team insanity with the serious (well, slightly more serious) solo folks. Watching the traffic flow in the city change over a 24-hour period was fascinating, and eventually, the traffic won. The start/stop/headquarters was in the heart of an NFL tail-gating mega-fest parking hell, and it was just madness trying to negotiate with the crazy drivers.
I hope someone else does something similar - I would do it again in a heartbeat.

So was that one just a one-time thing?

There will be a second 24 hr TT in Britain in 2011. East Sussex CA is holding it in late June.

No, but it was the last time. :( They started with something like 70 riders in 2005, and grew to over 350 this past year. Four checkpoints and the start/finish area with RFID card readers that you had to swipe to make sure you were doing the full loop - 12 miles, depending on what roads you used. It was a blast, fun trying to find the shortest routes, watching the traffic flows shift throughout the day/night, and the party vibe in the pit area. It was really kinda wacky, but fun.

Is that a road 24-hour event, and is there a website for it?

Mersey Roads 24 hr TT, the British National Championships.

Have you got a website for this one? I've been looking for it, but so far the most recent website I've found is from 2003.

No Mersey Roads 24 website, not everybody is on the internet.

There will probably be something up closer to the date for the East Sussex CA 24.

Mersey Roads 24 used to be on the internet a number of years ago.

There's a 24-hour event that's a fundraiser for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and local cancer initiatives -- the "24 Hours of Booty."

http://www.24hoursofbooty.org/site/PageServer?pagename=rides_landing

It is an "event," though, not a race (although there are always a few guys out setting some serious PRs.) There will be all kinds of bikes and riders out (including little kids, for at least some of the time), and the quirk of the rides is that they are held on very short loops (3 miles and 2 miles.) But it might be a good "low-key" sort of way for someone to try out their first 24-hour ride.

The rides are held in Charlotte, North Carolina (July) and (for the first time this year, and it will more than likely be back) in Columbia, Maryland (September.) (I did the Columbia edition.)

I know that, I rode the event when there was a Mersey Roads website. It also linked to the 24 Hour Fellowship. That still doesn't have much of a website.

I can't give you a link to a website that doesn't exist and I'm not about to build one.

Why are there not more 24-hour road racing events? There are heaps of 24-hour mtn bike events, but not as many road events.

Why does the 24-hour thing appeal to mtn bikers more than it does to road riders?

Just a couple questions I've been pondering. :)

This is a 24-hour event, but it is essentially a charity ride, not a competitive event or even a rando-type event. They don't keep track of your miles, you just go ride.
