I'm looking into building my own bamboo frame and I need a bottom bracket shell, head tube, and dropouts. Does anyone have any idea where I can buy these parts?

Nova should be able to set you up. It looked like they just added some dropouts for carbon. I figure you would probably attach them the same way to bamboo. They would also have bb shells and something you could use for the head tube.

Is the head tube usually just a tube that is machined/threaded, or can one buy a head tube that is ready to go?

Just hack some parts off an old frame. Its gonna be the cheapest way. Just don't use anything too nice.

They are metal tubes Example (http://www.cycle-frames.com/bicycle-frame-tubing/COLUMBUS-OS-CRMO-36.0-x-200.html).
You cut them to length and machine the interior with a headset chase. Your LBS should have one in their tool chest and can chase it and the bottom bracket shell for you.
A note about bottom bracket shells, they have a right and left side. When you buy one, take it to the LBS and mark which side is which with a grease pencil or something.
