Road Cycling - wellgo pedals

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I just picked up my first road bike from my LBS today (really excited!!!) and although I have not been able to put any miles on it due to really nasty weather I have the following problem/concern:
While scanning the forum today I came over a thread, in which several of you guys stated that wellgo pedals are basically real crap.
Now when purchasing my bike I did not even look at the pedals, since I thought any clipless setup would do.
When checking just now I saw that my new roadie was equipped with "Wellgo 705" pedals.
My question now is, weather I should exchange them right away before even starting to ride or should I give them a shot?
Thanks for your thoughts
Benjamin
I believe those who consider them cr@p are concerned about long-term reliablility. Until I can locate an appropriate deep-dish wrench to rebuild my 13-year-old Shimano pedals, I am using clip-style sealed-bearing Wellgos on my mountain bike. So far, all I have noticed is that they turn freely, run quietly and reliably, and save me some weight. A year or two from now, ask me what I think of them.

I have a pair of pair of Wellgo racing pedals on my Cannondale R600 with 11,600 miles on them. the left pedal is showing some wear and needs some attention. I think I got my money's worth, don't you.

I've had the same set of on my mountain bike for about 10 years and they are still working.
Your call.

Thanks everyone for your replies!
After what you've said wellgo's don't sound that bad after all.
I'll just stick to them for the moment being and if problems arise I can always upgrade them at a later point of time.

When I bought my Raleigh in 1999 it had Wellgo pedals. I too had heard "bad" things about them. I asked the manager if I could swap them for something better. He said he would take them off the bike but couldn't give me any trade-in credit but did knock a few dollars off the price of new pedals.
If your LBS has a similar policy you might want to keep them. Maybe you'll have good luck like the other posters.

I have Wellgo 813 SPD-clone pedals on my touring bike, and after 3600 miles they're still flawless. And they work with cleats from Shimano, Ritchey, and Wellgo.
Wellgo makes OEM pedals for outlets like Performance and Nashbar, so they know what they're doing.
But for a road bike, I'd think you wouldn't want to be changing cleat systems unnecessarily, and you wouldn't want to make that choice based only on what pedals happened to come with the bike. What are those Wellgos, SPD-R clones? If that's what you want to use anyway, then great. But if you want Look or Speedplay you might not want to buy expensive shoes and then try to change to a different cleat system.

last year i tryed them had them for 300 miles when the they started to fall apart. first the screws came lose the the spring
broke.. i was 40 miles from the car.. good thing was they have a wide body so i could still ride with one shoe clipped...
I have looks now with no problems..
