Amon Amarth rocks. That is all.
See them gathered on the plains now
See an army strong and vast
As long as one of us remains here
None of them will ever pass
Here they come so raise the shields high
Like wolves they show their teeth
None of us will ever yield now
To the scavengers beneath
We're outnumbered ten to one here
Still I love the odds
We will sacrifice them one by one
Send them off to the gods
Soon we will be gone
A free will sacrifice
As free men we are born
And free we shall die
Here they come ten thousand strong
Charging up the hill
This day will be both hard and long
They move in for the kill
Hold the line don't let it break
Use your sword and spear
A glory death for all awaits
All who knows no fear
Hoards of men they beat the shields
Like waves they break away
We face our woven destiny
And we don't fear the grave
Soon we will be gone
A free will sacrifice
As free men we are born
And free we shall die
These lyrics will make lifetime vegetarians race over to the nearest meat market and start stuffing 10 day old hamburger into their mouths. Guaranteed.
Its also great drainer music.
Rock on.
i think it's crap, but some of my best friends grew up on it.

incorrect.
I don't partake myself, but it can't be any worse than this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horrorcore)
I really like Scandanavian women!
And smoked salmon is pretty good too.

an old customer of mine was a roadie for a pretty famous band, he had me listen to stuff he called "Norwegian Thrash". Heavier than Heavy Metal, well produced too. Maybe that's what you're refering to, I could have my lines crossed though.

Especially in 6" heels. They're pretty tall to begin with. Must be the lutefisk...

Don't the musicians really get deep into it and, like, kill people to show their loyalty to the genre? And burn churches and stuff?

Some bands should just NOT make videos. It kind of distracts from the music.
I laughed watching it, even though I have the CD.
If you see their picture on Wikipedia, those guys only need about 2 outfits to tour, as they've all got black Doc Martins, black tshirts and jeans. Its soft of like Devo without the clay flowerpots.

Epic band is Epic. Actually, I saw Meshuggah open up for Tool in 2001. Freaking awesome show. MJK was painted in blue that night.

You know, its funny. I'm a fusion guitarist who loves Mahavishnu and Coltrane and a lot of jazz stuff, but I prefer to listen to metal. Jazz - ever since "smooth" came along - has stagnated. Most of the invention in music is in rap, electronica and metal.
I listen to In Flames, but that's about it.

Amon Amarth is pretty good. I've been listening to a lot of death metal recently:
Lamb of God
Mastodon
Asesino
Brujeria
Otep (OK, maybe not exactly death metal, but still good)
Devildriver
Satyricon
Deicide
In Flames
Throwdown
Behemoth
Decapitated

Meh, Amon Amarth is really just a meh. Liste to Cradle of Filth or Children of Bodom instead srsly
I have an Amon Amarth album. It's pretty amusing, but at the same time, it's not terrible. Not a purchase tinged with regret.

For some reason death metal and such is really popular here in Richmond VA. Lamb of God, etc. Can someone explain why? I mean, it can't just be that Richmond's own GWAR has been that influential?

is there any life metal? That is jesus oriented? I'd listen to that instead of a bunch of horror movie idolizing *******.

I also have Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Chimara (sp?)... and Slipknot if you count it as a form of death metal (I'd really call it more thrash because you can actually UNDERSTAND most of the words without a lyric sheet).
Meshuggah is now on my iPod.
Summoning for the epic fantasy stuff.
Blind Guardian, not death metal, but still epic.
Elffor for the uber depressed edge.
Others that come to mind include Astarte, Opera IX, Opeth, Eluveitie, Behemoth, and Otep.
For other metal types, Hammerfall, Grave Digger, Iced Earth, Jag Panzer.
Of course, there is good ol' Megadeth.

Brujeria lol they talk about some weird stuff.
You don't really have to not understand the lyrics for it to be considered that. Just look at Megadeth but then again I wouldn't consider them death metal
