Putting the final touches on my new CX build and am trying to figure out where/how to add some adjusters for the canti brakes. I have Cane Creek SCR-5 Aero brake levers (cables will be under the bar tape) and Shimano BR-R550 cantilever brakes. At the rear, I have a cable stop located between the seat stays and I have planned to use a threadless stem cable hanger up front.

I have considered JAG in-line mini adjusters, but they recommend them only for shift cables (I plan to used them with my shift cables). I am looking for something simple, clean, stylish and unobtrusive.

Any good thoughts on this subject? Thanks in advance.

ps. Can someone tell me where/how this thing works:

The Jagwire part you showed is what I was going to recommend. They replace the barrel end of your straddle cable. They can be very handy for wheel changes because you only make straddle cable adjustments and not yoke adjustments.

Thanks. Do you happen to have a photo of one these installed? I am not clear how I would add it to the matching Shimano straddle cable, or do I need to change the straddle cable system out as well? Do I then end up adjusting the brakes by changing the length of the straddle cable? Hmmm... I am wondering if that is better or worse because there is an optimal length/angle to the straddle cable to get the best brake performance.

pretty sure you'd have to switch to a traditional straddle cable setup to use those with the shimano brakes. BUT i don't think those adjusters will fit into the shimano brakes. i bought the same adjusters hoping to use them with my kore race+ canti's but they just wouldn't fit. i've used the shimano brakes and it seems like there would be even less room to use the adjusters with them.

There was some discussion about using jagwire inline adjusters on brakes, and I would say that I have done it, and nearly everyone I race with does it as well. I dont see a big chance of them failing, but if you do then dont use them. I find them to pretty handy though.

I not married to the Shimano straddle cables, so what is a "traditional" straddle cable setup (I a newbie to CX) and can it be used with these canti's?

a "traditional" straddle cable setup is the wire and a separate cable holder. you can adjust the length of the straddle cable and the height of the cable holder to play around with stopping power and modulation. the shimano brakes use a one peice cable yoke which makes it easier to setup but lacks adjustability. you can certainly swtich to a traditional setup with the shimano's but i still don't think the barrel adjusters would fit on the brakes. i am pretty sure you could use the inline adjusters like others have suggested.
