Can anyone help me with the real capacity of a Shimano RD-M750 rear derailleur? I believe it is the long cage SGS model, but it isn't marked as such. The distance between centers of the pulleys is 3 3/8". The Shimano literature I found online indicates a capacity of 38. On Sheldon's site, he indicates these numbers are generally conservative. Does anyone have real experience using this derailleur for capacities greater than 38? I would like to go up to 43.

If it really is an SGS rear derailler, it should handle 43 teeth with no problems. I've run an XTR SGS RD with a 52/42/30 triple and an 11/32 cassette. At the other end of the spectrum, I've used an Alivio SGS RD with a 42/32/22 and an 11/32 cassette. Both cases worked fine and I could have used a bigger spread if I wanted. Plenty of MTB's are running around with 44/32/22 triples and 11/34 cassettes (45 tooth capacity).
