Bicycle Mechanics - new campy chorus cassette?

I want to purchase a new cassette for my felt, currently I'm rocking the stock chorus group set that came with my bike(minus the cassette which is an old 8 speed).

Im guessing its the groupset that was available in 2003 cus thats the year my bike was made, so my question is will the new 10 speed UD chorus cassettes be compatible with my groupset? Will i experience any problems?

Also what are the main differences between lets say chorus and centaur(one step down), will it just be weight for the most part?

So you have an 8sp group? No, the 10sp cassette won't work. You need to get an 8sp Campy Cassette.

If it's 8sp, it was from mid '90's, not 2003.

If it's a 10sp group, then the 10 sp cassette you're looking at should be fine.

A 10 speed cassette will not fit on a hub made to fit an 8 speed cassette. The splines were changed in 1997 to the current 9/10/11 speed spline.

I'm not sure if this is true just for Campy, but for Shimano I've fit a 10spd cassette on a wheel that came with an 8spd casette and vice versa just fine. On the Shimano freehub body the size is the same, just the spacing between the cogs is different.

I didn't just guess when I posted that the 8 speed spline is not the same as 10.

That has nothing to do with campy. Campy 8 is 100% not compatible with 9/10.

Thanks for the contribution guys, i realize the dilemma about not being able to use a 10 speed on my current hub(i plan to purchase a new rear wheel when i get the cassette :P )

Yes. The Chorus uses an aluminum carrier for the larger cogs. The Centaur is all steel. Centaur is a better value.

Some how it works, i know for sure the shifters are made for the 10 speed group. My cassette i have atm is kinda weird its not the typical 8 speed, i think the guy might have made it custom or something (my second to biggest cog ring is a 19 then it jumps to a 25, looks kinda funky)

And Veloce is a better value yet. The differences between it and Cenatur are just cosmetic and who ever looks closely at your cassette?

I'm now using a 10-speed Veloce cassette on an otherwise all-Chorus bike and the shifting is first rate, certainly as good as the Chorus cassette the bike came with.
