I made it!!!! 29-mile commute home. I chose better roads to ride this time which added miles to the trip but made it far more enjoyable.

man are my legs tired. On the plus side, my 'recumbent' muscles feel mighty strong.

...Anyone for walnuts?

Congrats to you!!! From home to work is 18 miles via interstate - I wonder if i can think up a bike route for it, and set a goal to do it by next spring...would be so cool - specially since my Boss is being such a A$$ bout all of this...

I hope to be in your shoes one day soon...

Thanks everyone,

I'm terribly out-of-shape after my wipe-out of a couple months ago. I had one 8 mile ride in July, and another 8 miles 3 weeks ago with my son, then the Friday before I did 17 before my wife caught up to me and 13 the next day. The headwind was rougher this time around and I was only making 11-mph into it and not feeling strong. I shouldn't have eaten that doughnut just before leaving work because I ended up having doughnut burps for 10-miles into the ride. I was good for the first couple of hours, but then I ran out of steam and my time suffered. Still 'I am the tortoise' I told myself and at mile 23 I was really feeling spent, but I was determined.

Saturday & Sunday I felt totally exhausted from the ride. I think I was really ready to do around 20-miles and I over-did it a bit. In any case I'll be doing several shorter rides for a while. My favorite part of the ride is a tie between stopping to watch a pumkin-chucker catapult at a local plant store and riding past the vineyards. The smell of the Concords was just fantastic.
