General Cycling Discussion - Cleaning Hoods and Bars

With the recent hot weather here in the midwest, I am having a problem with sweat on the hoods and bar wrap. It gets slippery and hard to hang on when going up a hill or stopping.

What is the recommended way to clean sweat and grime from the bar wrap and hoods? I didn't notice this problem with my old bike, but ever since I've gotten my new bike, it's been hot and humid here. Surely some of you southern states folks will have the solution.

I use a waterless handcleaner product, like GoJo, preferably one thad doesn't have pumice in it. I just rub it on with my hands and hose it off. Only takes a minute and does a dandy job.

Do you wear cycling mits ?, if not try a pair,you will soon get used to them & you'le feel 'naked' when you forget to wear them !

hear in the city it doesnt get too hot but you definitely still build up a sweat. I ride a hybrid and used to have problems with my grip shifts when my hands got sweaty. now i always use my gloves. cant leave home without em and it totally helps. i even have the ones with a lil gel in em for extra comfort.

use cloth bar tape. The old school woven kind. No matter how wet it
gets it retains its grippiness.

ditto...cork tape and gloves are my best friend on hot days...even days where i forget the gloves the cork does me well.

Thanks for the replies.......I do use gloves and Specialized Bar Phat tape. My main problem is that the hood get slippery....even with gloves on....when it's humid here the gloves are just as wet as my hands would be without them. Gloves or no gloves, I'm slipping and sliding all over the place.

i used to have this problem with my old gloves...then i bought these no name brand gloves that have this rubbery type grippy stuff (the technical term for it of course:D) and i havent had a problem riding in the rain since.
