I see the same thing at the gym parking lot: people fighting over the closest parking spot to the building so they won't have to walk 30 seconds before going in to exercise! (in sunny california)

At the gym, you're right, it's ironic... but when you go to work, having a reserved parking place right next to the door is a status symbol.

This is true at the supermarket where people buy health food yet cannot walk 25 feet to return the shopping cart.

I find it amazing that some feel that having a parking space next to the building entrance is a "status symbol." What is so uplifting about parking next to the door? It's not like you are getting to work 15 seconds sooner. Or are still "working hard" to advance your career.

Is it a sign that "you've made it" so that now you can sit back, rest on your laurels and get FAT thereby destroying the image of being a "go getter" that you've already established?

I mean, seriously, there are so many REAL problems in the world that believing that parking spaces are status symbols is ridiculous.

Having a RESERVED parking is certainly a status symbol. Having one close to the door means you can come and go as you please, when you please, and even if it is a terrential downpour you won't have to walk in it for long. And yes, you can get to work sooner because you are right at the door, while others are circling the parking lot or walking all that way (25-100ft.) carryng briefcases, bags, books, or whatever.

Too bad this wasn't a funny picture with something actually wrong with it.

Reserved parking is a non perk given so they don't have to cough up more cash.I'll walk across the lot in the rain just gimme the cash.

No, I think what you saw, even though even you didn't realize it, is that the grouting is missing from the row of bricks above the awning.

Anyway, sorry to correct you on your own thread, but I think we're all better for knowing the real answer.
