We need a sticky
Question: Can I ride a bike? Are there bikes that will hold my weight? Should I get a mountain bike? Road? Hybrid?

Answer yes you can, any of the above. As for your weight, I started at 526lbs on a hybrid. Make sure you have double wall 36 spoke count rims and expect to have to fix them every once in a while if they are the ones that came with the bike.

Example: I have broke 3 spokes and had one wheel re-laced for a cost of $50.00, had to get one wheel (front) trued after dropping off of a 1" curb (don't do that if you weigh as much as I did:D) with a total of 600 miles and counting on my bike.

I'm sure others have similar experiences

You forgot - can I ride a bike "pain -free"....Hehe, can I ride a bike cheaply?

And, may want to add some stuff about how bikes have changed over the years - that REALLY caught me off-guard! I expected - better metals, etcs...expected better quality, and lighter weights and stuff like that, but this pedal-forward, or feet-forward - either I would not have thought it would make a difference, or would not and did not see it coming?

Frankly, after today - even if the surgery wasn't in the offiing, I'd be sorely tempted to get a bike anyhow - that is how HUGE the pedal-forward difference seemed to be simply today sitting on, and pedaling in parking lots today. On one bike - the worst of the bunch - go figure - I actually did bout 1.5 miles - call it roughly ten minutes non-stop - actually, N O N S T O P 10 minutes - me?! riding (yes, tonight am crippled up more than usual, but still - simply amazing - so perhaps a sticky about these types of ood-ball topics may be a good idea? Perhaps a section, within a sub-section?

Just a thought?
