Heya, I'm planning on doing the Kokopelli over labor day weekend and I was wondering who has done it before? I'll probably bring a group of 8-12, it depends as i'm planning now. Who has done it? Supported or did you do drops before the trip? I've read much about it and I've ridden the first 1/4 of it since i'm like 15 minutes from Loma, anyways, any info is welcome, thanks.

Saw your message kind of late, so you may be back. I've done it twice with sag wagons both times. I wouldn't recommend trying to drop supplies. Use one sag wagon as a camp scout and another as lunch support. I'll happily provide details if you're still interested.

Sorry, it wasn't labor day! We moved the trip to mid Oct. since we didn't want to fool around with the warmer weather. Details would be great, i could send you my tentative itinerary and you could look over it. Basically we're doing 33miles a day average over 4.25days (the .25 friday afternoon). We have one support vehicle, a 15 passenger van. We'll have about 7-10 in the group. Thanks!

I've done the trip twice: once self-supported and once with a sag wagon (in that order). One sag wagon is plenty though we didn't bother with the luxury of having the sag meet us for lunch! The only difficulty is having the sag wagon figure out how to get to the campsite that you've chosen. 4.25 days is a reasonable length of time. We took slightly less self-supported because of water, and we rode hard. We took slightly more time with the sag wagon since you can carry so much water and camp luxuriously in beautiful spots. I might be able to answer some questions, but it was almost 10 years ago the last time I went.

Hey DrGonzo, I'll be happy to look at your trip plans if you can get them to me in the next 24 hours or so. Just got back in and heading out again. Your van might have problems getting up onto North Polar Mesa out of the Onion Creek drainage if it isn't high clearance, although the last time I went through there the road seemed better. If it is a problem, you can take the long way around by driving up Castle Valley and meet the riders that way. Either way, you can make it work. By the way, my odometer showed 155+ both times I rode it.
