I recently purchased a Bontrager. it is nice folds easily and is very stable so far, although I have not done any headset or BB installations yet. it is a bit short for me and I would like something a bit taller. I am used to the old days of clamping by the seat tube not the post. but comapred to crawling on my knees it was a great investment.

You might as well have asked us what bike brand is the best. So many choices of stands, durability, shop use, travel stands, clamping stands, non clamping. It all depends on what you want to work on, how often, and where. The best stand is what works best for you.

If you want the stand that has been standard in many repair shops for years then you want a park pro stand. It is more than you will need for home repairs tho and cost a couple hundres dollars. In fact you dont need a repair stand at all to do home repairs. I've been building(frame up) and fixing my bikes for years and have never needed a stand. When I need to work on the drive train or wheels I just turn my bike upside down on a carpeted area balancing it on the handlebars and saddle. You might get a stand that hold your bikes front or rear wheel wheel to keep it upright when messing with brakes or headset or whatever. Bike stands are a bt of a luxury for home repairs unless you are working on many different bikes constantly. Get a cheapo wheel stand for 2o bucks from Nashbar or something something like this is fine http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_170404_-1_200309_200278_200496
If you really want a "proper" repair stand just get the cheapest one you can find and make sure your tubes are well padded when clamping them. Here is another from Nashbar that is fine for your use:
