They can't ship one to us, or it would probably cost a fortune! (We're a military family, living in Italy)
Luckily when we were hanging out in Padova the other day, my wife spotted a bike similar to a Bakfiets. We stopped the gentleman riding it, and asked where he got it.
Turns out, it's a Gazelle! There's an importer in Vicenza, so we drove over there the next day and picked one up. It'll be delivered next week!

It's quite a bit more expensive, especially with Italian VAT tax included, but the Salesman threw in the rain cover for free.
It's got some better parts than a Madsen, it's aluminum, and the tub doesn't require our daughter to straddle it. It also puts our daughter in front, which my wife prefers.
1500Euro.
Handling takes a bit of getting used to, with the steering axis so far up front. The roller brakes were a bit of a concern for me, but the areas my wife rides don't have a lot of hills, so I don't think they'll be an issue.
I'll make sure to post pictures when it arrives!
