It should. X9 shifter is rated at 1:1 pull ratio and so is this rival rear derailleur. Just web info, but cross-checked.

I've heard that there are slight differences in the pull ratios between the mountain and road SRAM rear derailleurs. Your desired combination might work, but not perfectly. Things are supposed to change with the new XX stuff - an XX rear derailleur can be operated by any SRAM road shifter or a SRAM XX shifter, but this won't help you.

I did not really ask for details, but she said the road 10 speed components were not compatable with the mountain 9 speed stuff. Whem XX comes out that group will be able to cross over

I read on this forum or somewhere similar that the SRAM mountain bike shifters and RDs (pre-XX) use a different amount of cable pull in different parts of the range. The pull ratio may however stay at 1:1 throughout. I never understood it fully, and have not had the need to try mixing the MTB and road SRAM stuff to see if it really makes a noticeable difference, but I would be interested to know if anyone has tried it.
Of course, the question is now whether XX will remain different from all the other MTB groups in this regard or whether the other levels of SRAM MTB components will start to adopt the road and XX standard over time. The reason for making them different in the first place eludes me; as does not offering a triple road shifter and derailleur - Truvativ (one of SRAM's brands) already make the crankset for it, the Rouleur triple, but you can't buy any SRAM products to shift it with (sorry, off topic rant now over).

XX stuff is definitely 1:1, I remember them bragging about how it could be used with the road shifters, which makes me think it would be a fantastic touring group. All other mountain shifters use a different ratio, I know you can't even use the old SunTour friction shifters, the ones that clicked because the jump between 8 and 9 was weird.
