There is a leather tooling and supply store about a mile away from me that sells buckles. I don't know that they sell these particular type of buckle, their inventory is pretty big. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did. I'll grab their card and post their info.

looks like the suede's going to leave little suede crumbs everywhere until it snaps! oh well someone's got to be the guinea pig! i'll be checking back for a progress review after a few weeks =)
i really want some toshis but like everyone says, they're $$$$ but its the best the best the best the best says dave grohl lol

thats acutally a picture of toshi straps.
and most suede loses it's fuzziness eventually and has little bearing it's strength.
as long as they dont get totally dried out and brittle, they'll be fine.
check out the london forums. they've been using these straps for awhile now w/o problems.

ah i glanced at it too quick! how thick are the toshis and exustars?
toshis are thicker and a better overall construction
but these are not bad at all. I'd rate them just below toshi/kashimax/mks alpha
but far above soma/all-city/whatever else.
and their customer service is probably the best i dealt with. since one of my straps broke they sent me another pair free of charge. insane i tell ya. right now i have these on my right pedal and single nylon on my left pedal. WORLD OF A DIFFERENCE. love it so far until i get my other pair.

are you getting one new one or a new pair?
since the clip is broken off one, you could cut that one in half and make it into a single. would probably be a better single than a nylon strap.

Wabi is an excellent company! They were supposed to send it via FedEx Ground (basic shipping), but sent it out via USPS Priority instead (faster!). They even wrote a note on the packaging slip.

Got my pair today. Strong smell indeed. I love how they charged $8 for shipping (40 miles away) but it cost them $0.95 (on the package). I guess handling is $7.05 :p. Ridden Toshi's before but never owned them. The quality of these seems solid. I put in about 20 miles on them today including a bunch of high speed skids and long skids and they stayed very snug so far. Came from All City's so I already feel good about the buy. Will post updates over time.

just a musty leather smell -- like a new leather jacket. it fades.

what kind of clips are those?
They look like your standard issue swan style road clips. I know for a fact that all city makes a pair of double strap compatible swan style road clips, considering thats what i run.
On topic:
I just bought a set of the wabi's. My all city leathers slip so bad. For my pedal setup i am running:
Wabi Double straps
All City Swan road style double toe clips
mks gr-9 pedals

They are CKC double clips. They seem a bit studier than the MKS single I broke. I believe soma/all-city uses the same ones and just brand them on the top. Pretty sure all city and soma straps are the same too. There's a company in socal here that does the same thing that sells them for cheaper also. I believe they sell under ebay under fubar.
Mr. jon, are yours stamped CKC on the bottom? We'd have the same pedal setup then :)

Got a pair and put them on with All City Nylon Double Cages and GR-9s. Great straps. The smell is bad but I'm sure a bit of riding and it should fade. Why should we care that they are Exhausters again?
calling them wabi straps is a bit asinine when the exustar logo right there on the buckles, no? If you buy some kashimax straps from bens cycles, are you going to call them ben straps as well? I suppose that goes with the kindergarten vernacular of people say "fixies" regularly, though.

How is a slang word considered kindergarten vernacular? Anyways.... on a ride yesterday my friend was riding behind me and kept saying "something smells like a petting zoo". Ha!
do you call your surfboard a surfie? or your skateboard a flippie? or your drinking cup a sippie?
"fixie" is the equivalent of calling your cock a peepee -- it has such a weird, prepubescent connotation and is most often uttered by suburban morons.
But that's just a side comment and is less relevant to this conversation. my main point is calling a product another name than whats branded on the product itself (and by a well-known, international cycling company nonetheless) is just...asinine. Back when I used to drive, I purchased a used Honda Civic from a Saturn dealership. I wasnt about to call my car a Saturn.

I guess it's a californian thing but there are slang words for everything. I understand your point though. But wabi doesn't sell them as exustars and I don't think many people know of the brand. As you probably already know, people don't read threads all the way through. There's already a couple examples in this one. Also, aren't soma/all-city just rebranded wellgo straps?
key word is "rebranded" - soma/all-city and probably even wellgo probably all order from the same asian factory catalogs and have their logos embossed/silk-screened or just added to the packaging. this is not the case with wabi - they have not rebranded anything, just wholesaled a bunch of exustar straps from the UK and are selling them as their own. And that's fine -- I wish them all the luck with their venture.

Note: I've got the pedals they're selling with these, and they've got a really annoying lip on the top/front pedal before your toe slides into the cage part. If you're planning to ride these in sneakers, the toe of your shoe will get caught on this lip every time, makes getting into them on the move a PITA.
So I ordered a set of these a couple days ago and I got an empty envelope in the mail today :(
I can assume that they were jacked from the envelope because the inside of the envelope has the distinct elephant dick smell you guys keep talking about.
If you can imagine, I am making the frustrated fffffuuuuu- face right now :bang:

the mailman stole your double straps? where do you live, San Francisco?

I don't know if it was the mailman (which I doubt) or the people working in the mailroom of the college I attend (more likely, but finding out who did it and getting any kind of money back would be near impossible). I live in Providence, bike culture here is decent, but it's still pretty weird that someone would open a specific large yellow envelope to steal a pair of double toestraps...

Was the package torn or cut? I've lost items in envelopes due to USPS's automatic sorting machines.

No, but it did seem like it was opened and then resealed because the glue on the envelope was pretty weak by the time it got to me.

My postman scanned a confirmation label, then left the package on my doorstep for someone to steal. I don't have anything delivered to my home any more.

That's why I have stuff shipped to my mailbox at our college's mailroom. Guess that doesn't work anymore either...

So you think someone there took them? That sucks.

Either that or they fell out of the envelope en route...which I feel is pretty unlikely. I'm gonna go to the mailroom om Monday when it opens for the week to see what's up, but I doubt that I'll get anything out of it.
