Just wondering where one would go to have a physical battery taken ... namely, lung capacity, VO2 max, max HR etc... I know that some coaches will do a basic battery if you start training with them ... I also know that hospitals have the equipment to do most of these tests in their rehab dept's, but can you actually make appointments to have those tests done?

In Boise (Idaho), there's a Sports Medicine clinic (http://idsportsmed.com) where you can make appointments [from the Q&A - "If you are physically active, you qualify"] for the full fitness evaluation. I've always been kind of curious but I'm not sure if insurance would cover the full battery.

It may be a good idea just for you to start with your local university. See if they have a Phys Ed. department or a Kinesiology, or even Sports Physiology department. If you can't find anything there, and they can't give a recommendation, get online and look up performance labs in Utah. You will be sure to find something. If you still can't find anything, let me know. My friend knows of some people on the west coast in California who have a performance lab. I had a performance test with them, and they amused me with pictures they took when Lance Armstrong came to train and test with them when Lance was still a scrapper teenager. They've got hilarious pictures of a very young Lance.
