Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - New Road Bike w/ pic

I finally got my new road bike home to Miami and I couldn't be happier. I did some riding in Colorado were I bought the bike, it handles incredibly well. It is stiffer than my CAAD9 yet rides super smooth and comfortable.

It is a super stiff bike, with a huge bottom bracket. I can stand and sprint on this bike and all the power goes right to the road. The best part is that it is buttery smooth. The carbon arc absorbs all the road vibration. The wheels for being 20/24 run real well and feel very strong.

I was able to climb for 3 hours on this bike, except for a 1/2 mile stretch of 12% grade at the top of Rist Canyon. That ride was 30 miles with 4,000 ft of climbing. The hour long descent was amazing and we were able to reach speeds in excess of 50mph. The bike felt like it was on rails on the way down and this made me feel very confident.

I thought my CAAD9 was stiff but this is in a different category. The bike is stiff and smooth, which is a nice change. Although I do love my CAAD9, it is a bad ass also.

Very nice looking bike. In excess of 50mph?:eek: Even if we had that kind of down hill here which we rarely do, the road surfaces would send you flying off a cliff.:D

There are stretches of beautiful clean road for miles, and when you go early in the morning during the week there is very little traffic.

BMC makes a sweet looking bike. Nice area to ride in. I would not mind going down the hills it is going up that would be the hard part.

I live in Fort Collins too, Jesspall! I think that I saw you out riding Sunday? I can't remember where (maybe on Taft Hill near the south dam?), but I do remember waving to somebody with a snazzy-looking yellow bike.

Oh, and I love the descent down Rist Canyon, and often hit 50 mph on some of those longer and straighter sections above the volunteer fire department. Whoosh!!

I live primarily in Miami, but make frequent trips to Ft. collins. The hills there kick my butt, big time. I did the Rist Canyon ride on saturday, and had to walk a few times. Particularly up ford hill on that ride, the descent down the other side was long and fast though.

I rode down centennial and got some really high speeds on some of the descents on those hills.

I hit 57 mph going down the northern side towards Bingham Hill/Bellvue. Super fast drop. It can be scary near the north dam around dusk and dawn, though. Mule deer like to cross the road along that section, and it is pretty hard to manoeuver when you are going that fast.

As a matter of fact there was a Mule deer that just got hit by a car on the side of the road. Wish I could have done something but I kept going.

What really sucks are the cattle guards in the road.

Yeah, they hide some of those cattle guards behind corners. Here you are zipping along at 35+ mph, you enter a curve, and there is a big-ass cattle guard. :twitchy: If it is raining, you can go down pretty easily on those things. Lots of guys bunny-hop them, but I only do that as a last resort for bigger things than cattle guards (large debris in the road in heavier traffic areas, big patch of broken glass, etc.).
