Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yes, Sunday will be my very first race in NYC. I am pretty excited. it is late in the season and a short race. 500 plus people going around central park..The energy level should be very high. The winner last year did the entire race in 57 mins......So befoe most people wake up Sunday the race is OVER!

I really don't think you are doing a biathlon, especially in NYC. There is no place to cross country ski now, and i don't think the NYPD would let you guys shoot at anything. You are probably doing a Duathlon (run and bike), an Aquathon (swim and run), or an aquabike (swim and bike). But Biathlon (cross country skiing and target rifle shooting) is probably not on the agenda.

The race took place within NYC Central park what a great place.....How ever it was so dam crowded I was at the back of the pack at the start and the 500+ PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME took abou ta minute before I could even move. I ran slow road slow but all in all had a good time. The transition area was the BoatHouse rest. in th epark really lovely bu tthe area was far to small no space just 600 bikes/people cramped fun though I'd do it again...good for the last race of the year.

What was your finishing time? I did this last year and was supposed to do it this year except for the fact that the first race was during labor day wknd and I was away and the 2nd event on the 4th was the same day the MS Bike Tour was going on. I opted for the MS but I am positive I'll be hitting up the duathlon next year as well.
Last year was an awakening year for me, it showed me that I could do it and that I should do it better. I finished in 1:26 where my age group top 3 were 1:7, 1:8, 1:9. My 12m loop then was 45mins, now it's more like 33 mins and my run times are superb. I'll be mid pack of my age group 28 for next year's duathlon...of course after i finish the NY Tri ;)

yea my benchmark times were slow but i guess we gotta start somewhere! I too wore my sneakers in cages on the bike and that 45mins is nothing now especially with the new rig im spinning now. I can knock out a 10k in under 50mins, i'm aiming for a 2:3-sub3 ny tri. 18min swim, 1:15-1:30 bike, 1-1:15 run

I just started getting into the multi-sport events. Honestly I only really started ramping up actual training last year so I'm probably in my focus phase. What's the staten island event? Is it a duathlon or a tri? I think next year is going to be an apex of a year for me, so I'm interested in getting in as many as I can.

It is sponsored by GreenBrook racing, it is called the Flat as a Pancake Tri/Duathlon your choice..It is fun fast.....Try it. Join the NYTC they sponsor about a dozen races...from march to October. March Madness is held up in Orchrd beach Bronx good race but almost always cold & wet.The Central park race was nice because of the venue however the services & spaced suxed. Most others provide better acess to toilets & space. There are a dozen or so organizations and a race per weekend almost from June to Aug.
What bike do you have?:thumb:

It's in my sig - Felt F3SL sram red fd,rd,brifters - rival brakes - just added easton ea90 aero's w/open corsa rubber. have 2 more pieces to add then I should be done with this ride. then head to a full TT bike to train on before I race, will most like be racing the felt though.
I'll check out NYTC even though I think I've seen it before. I've been trading emails with Tri Life for some first hand coaching with the mindset that I want to do an IM / 70.3 some time in the future.

I've done some NYTC events and The Bronx Du and the Queens Du are my favorites. They are held in coolers times of Spring and the organizers shutdown the highway for the cycling portion of the event. No worries about traffic, joggers or other hidden dangers!
