Triathlon - Training for a tri...pulled a calf muscle.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I've been training for a sprint tri (500m, 21mi, 5mi) that is this Sunday, October 4. This my first triathlon.
Anyway, I pulled my calf yesterday playing soccer, a week before the race. It actually hurts to just walk around.
Any chance this thing is going to feel better by this coming Sunday? Am I just going to have to suck it up on the run, which will be a partial walk now?

that depends on how old you are, and how badly you pulled it (ask your doctor) if you are under 40 ish you should be fine, above, well good luck.

I pulled my gastroc muscle and was out for over a month of running. I could swim and ride within 10 days. But, I am 45.
Thanks for the info.
Im 31. Wasn't planning on running til Thursday of this week. I guess I'll just have to see how it feels.

It really depends upon how bad it was. I did mine blocking in volleyball and it pulled when I landed.
Good luck on the recovery.

Bummer, were ya wearing cleats? I swear I get more calf and achilles tendon strain when I wear cleats playing or reffing soccer...makes me want to wear my running shoes.

Yeah, I was. I was actually just running straight, not cutting or changing direction.
Felt like a bad cramp at first but then wouldn't go away after stretching.
I pulled my calf when I was training really hard last month. It was painful to walk on that leg. It ended up healing in 3 days. I mainly did some light walking to keep the blood flowing and liberal application of icy hot for 3 days. I was convinced it would take me a week to heal. I'm in my mid 30s and was surprised how quickly I healed.
Thanks for the input.
Its feeling better now. Haven't run yet, just rode and swam. Planning on trying to run tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes.
